Seeing how this mini is coming together has made me think about the base. What about a finish line on the ground with a flag pole/finish flag. The whole thing has a bit of an Alice in Wonderland feel and I wonder if that sort of setting would suit the mini's narrative more than a realistic/natural environment.

Had some good ideas on the base for the snail. Dave great idea but dont think it would fit on the size base? Im still planning and messing with a few ideas to see if I can get them to work.
Fixed the awful sword on Arwen.

Hartley and his race horse are just about finished, just the base now which im waiting for some 'stuff' to come through the post.
This has been a real treat to paint and also a real challenge with mixing real life with fantasy in both textures and colours. The snails shell (which everyone's gave me great praise on) was relatively easy compared to the snails skin which was a pissing nightmare it terms of colour - couldnt tell you what colours I used now.
Thanks all for all the lovely comments during the WIP and a big thanks to AndyG & Dave Sproket for some inspiring and helpful advice while I was pestering them at all hours

Lovely satin look on Arwen's dress. I have to say that the model makes her look too much like the cake at her own wedding (that isn't a proper gown to oppose the Nine Who Ride in!), but your painting on it is lovely.
And once again I have to tell you how wonderful the snail-riding hare is! The great use of pointillism throughout the piece gives it a very eye-catching quality (it really makes the gold edging on the reins visually pop).

you know this make me somewhat miss a knights helmet on the bunny i had my doubts at the beginning but now i actually like it a lot! :good:

Got to tell you all this because im so shocked.
My father-in-law has been in hospital with pnuemonia for a few days. Last night got a call from the hospital that we best get there as he had took a turn for the worse.
At the hospital was told he had died, after a very upsetting hour my brother-in-law viewed the body AND it wasnt him!!!!!!!
The hospital had got the wrong man / family details mixed up - what a fuck up of epic proportions
Got to tell you all this because im so shocked.
