Cheers Dave. The first hour I thought it was difficult, second hour thought it was easy and i'd discovered a revolution in painting, third hour back to difficult!
To sum up what you see is around 4 hours work, not the best NMM but some of my best blending ive ever done esp. in the hand.
A highly recommended technique that im keeping with.

Looks so smooth and you've nailed the loaded brush by the looks of things. I've tried it a few times but just doesn't work for me. Any tips?

I have problems with this very thing, getting a 'thicker' mix for whites/near whites when highlighting (regardless of loaded brush) -- do you have any tips for 'thickening' up these lighter colors for this purpose? I always have problems with the white being too watery. I use VMC White.

I tried the loaded brush technique a little but kept picking up too much paint for the second color. Ten you are look as though you have mastered it already. It did help me to use the side of my brush more. I imagine I am loading my brush with water then just applying one color.

You can try white (or other light colours) acrylic from a tube which is thicker. Personally I use one bt the Schminke brand. Make sure to use the "artist" quality as this is much better then the student quality.

i hope this helps.

Looks really good ten, I agree, it seems you've really done well using the loaded brush technique. Very smooth. Seems such a simple idea...I want to try it out too but know it's going to take some getting used too

I used it successfully on my current project. Really just a clever way to wet blend quickly and efficiently. One key to keep in mind, is that he loads the brush and then just puts the white highlight on ONE SIDE of the tip of the brush. Ben very often puts too much white on and has to knock some off, so be careful how much you put on, and keep it on just one side of the brush, so that you can flip the brush to the other side when wet blending the darker shade into the white.

Although it could theoretically work with shading, he only uses with highlighting. Furthermore, he only uses with the final highlight (white) and a basic highlight tone to create a range of highlights. IOW, if you normally glaze on Highlights 3, HL 2, HL 1, then pure white, instead this method used Highlight 3 wet blended into white to create the other range of highlifhts. So basically apply basecoat, use loaded brush to highlight, glaze on shadows.

Edit: white=final highlight color. Of course you are not limited to white, but using anything other than the extreme of your highlight makes no sense since you are wet blending tones together.

I am currently also trying it out and I use other highlights colours then white and it works good also, done some tries with shading also. no problems there either. Still have problems from time to time. Need to relearn how to move and use the brush a little bit to get better result.

I suggest to take some figures that you can test on and do some fast blending to find the right way too work with loaded brush technique.

Ten hope you don´t mind our loaded brush rumbling in your thread :)

Loaded brush is on my list too, just need to make the jump. I've gotten too comfortable layering, so it is hard to break the mold now that I've finally made that work.

I love the colours you've blended together on the robe it looks very Tzeentchian (is that even a word?) but the dominance of the green makes it stand out from the usual blue/pink you so often see.

Absolutely love it! I'll be picking this model up next time in GW for sure! Did you use loaded brush on the cloak as well? And I'm assuming you did the freehands in ivory then glazed over them in the base colour?

Every time I look at your work, I envy your skill more and more. This time however, I looked at your very uniquely colored sorcerer model and just smiled :) Your talent continues to impress :) Keep it up!!
