Sorry to hear you didn't place this year mate, although the crowd must have liked your work as I've seen pictures on twitter of your duel entry all day. What's your next comp Euro militare ?

Congratulations on the finalist pins Lee. From what I've heard this years quality was increadibly high so that's no mean achievement. Gobo looks great. The vibrant red of the nose is great but I think it could do with a little more tonal difference, just to break up the big block of colour

Thanks all :)

Mixed emotions, really great day, loved meeting up with my friends, venue was good again, pleased to get all my minis into the finals and vindication for my marine that was cast aside at the last 'mini golden demon' last year and got finalist stickers all over it as soon as it was placed into the cabinet - go figure!?

Anyway after hundreds of hours painting GW minis for GD ive had to have a quick break from fantasy and with Euro militaire next ive been work on a historical bust.

Face nearly finished, the result of four days x three hours per night.

Glad for the marine! I really like the skin but straight away the eyes felt off; I think the blue and white are far too bright. Sorry if the eyes aren't finished! The top of his lip is brilliant btw

Lovely work on the skin there mate just right with the tones. I might be tempted to add a very thin glaze of desaturated grey/skin mid tone as a bit of 5 o'clock shadow. It's nice to drop GW for a bit and change sizes.

Face is looking great. Definitely see that commitment to using bolder colors (color more boldly?), and I think it looks wonderful. Andy is probably right about the 5 o'clock shadow, though perhaps you might wait to see how the facial palette fits in with the rest of the figure before making final adjustments. Awesome start.

Lee from my perspective I have to politely disagree . The eyes are perfect.. Please do not tamper with those lovely peepers. I'm telling you you'll be sorry.

Thanks all :)
Quantum/Kretcher - yep the eyes do look bright, its the thin glaze of gloss varnish that seems to have caught the light on the photo. They don't look as bad on this update.

More WIP, this is my favourite part of painting skin when the main block of colour is down (and your happy with it) and you start with the fine tuning and glazing :)
Glazed back the lines under his eyes as too dark and looked unnatural, added more 9 oclock shadow as suggested.

Looking really good Ten. You've got some great subtlety going in that face. I really like the stubble in particular, very realistic.
