 All I have to say is WOW. That\'s more money than all the money I have spent on all my minis, paints, and armies put together for the last 3 or 4 years!

35 bids.
One bidder accounts for about 1/2 of those.

Looking at the buyer\'s recent acquisitions, I think he\'s come into a large sum of money and wants to produce a fantastic Dark Elf army. A nearly unique character mini will top it nicely. Average the cost out over the savings of buying older, cheaper stuff, and it\'s not soooo bad. Still extreme though.

I think I have an unreleased high elf champion. It\'s a studio cast. One of the local painters used to work for GW and we had a \"swap meet\" and I traded some lead for it.
I could be wrong though. He had a bunch but couldn\'t remember which one was the one that was never released. I\'ll have to find out now.

I imagine one could hire any one of many top sculptors out there to create a custom 1-off piece for less than that

I just don\'t know if I\'d want to paint a piece of metal that expensive, would worry too much about giving it a $1200 paint jobs to enjoy it

I don\'t suppose it\'s GW wanting to get back its property?

My understanding of the GW world (I\'ll have to ask the guy I mentioned above) is that the employees got lots of neat toys but weren\'t allowed to sell them. How this got on the market is unclear.

It was sold by Chris Fitzpatrick, who worked for GW and sculpted this piece. This is a case of having positively identified provenance (no chance of it being a recast) and several collectors very interested in it.

The price IS pretty extreme, but I would not have been the least bit surprised by a $400-500 final value. I think some of you might be underestimating the collector\'s market. There are a handful of unreleased pieces that I\'d personally be willing to throw several hundred dollars at to acquire, and I\'m not even remotely close to the \"big boys\" in terms of buying power. In this case, the bidding war obviously inflated this quite a lot, and I\'m positive that if it wasn\'t Chris Fitzpatrick selling it, it would have sold for less.

That said, most of the unreleased pieces are usually unreleased because they\'re crap figures. <g>

EricJ - shouldn\'t u be working on your LA entries instead of posting here? :)

Keep in mind its tax return time and some people look at it as free money and go crazy on eBay with it.

Hint! means its a good time to sell stuff on ebay:D

Don\'t worry, I\'m at work where I couldn\'t paint anyway, so it\'s not cutting into the time for the entry...just don\'t tell the boss :D

How is a car that fits in the palm of your hand not a miniature?

It seems unbelievable, but if you look at sold hotwheels, it\'s high but not out of the ballpark. Amazing.
I\'ve got a hot wheels I need to put on ebay....
