Don\'t worry, I\'m at work where I couldn\'t paint anyway, so it\'s not cutting into the time for the entry...just don\'t tell the boss :D

My boss and my boss\' boss are both at a conference this week... so I brought my paints to work! :D  :D

I couldn\'t imagine the pressure of giving it a $1200 paint job either... unless you commission someone to paint it for $1200. Then, by definition....

good point! if whoever won this auction wants to send $1200 my way, I\'ll hook it up with a paint job :)

Don\'t you think for that kind of money, he could have just commissioned a sculptor, and probably even cast a few completely original unreleased minis?

Remember, there are no Dark Elf Nobles on foot that aren\'t limited edition. Malus Darkblade on foot was limited, and he\'s the only one released in the current range. To be practical he needs converting anyway since he has no shield :p

So the fact that a decent looking character on foot doesn\'t exist for the army might have played into the price a bit too. Plus, if you have Malekith and his dragon dies, you need an unmounted version of him anyway.

I was going to say, he could have easily gotten a one-off sculpt from a number of people for much less than this - that would be exclusive. I\'ve been reading too many gaming forums lately: what a smacktard!

I\'d do it for less :D

See, i\'d do it for free. Or at least I\'d go through the motion and then keep the figure and move. Just for a laugh. It\'d be a lesson in many respects :innocent:

okay i thought this was alot of cash to be dishing out for a cast but then i watched the news today. A Turner painting sold for 32 million dollars in new york. 32million  so in comparision this is just a little bit of pocket change for some folk.

Amazing price, but it just goes to show that there is another area of this hobby that is not touched by this forum! I would imagine a number of the top buyers in this area of collecting would not refer to this site that much?

There seems to be a sharp increase in the prices realised for unreleased GW figures & I can\'t complain as I have a number of them & have seen 2 pieces I own sell for $600 & $300, however I was given them & feel that it would be too mercenary to sell them!!

Out of casual interest, how much would it cost to hire a profesional sculptor to make a single mini?

1000+ $$$ eh? For my money it would have to be gold. And carried over the atlantic in a pelicans beak where it is placed on a a very large trainset and is carried from the port to my house where a tiny little rare vole carries it off and places it on a silk leaf. And I paint it with a faberge egg...

Well it should cost what the sculptor charges, i.e. their going rate. Within certain limits it doesn\'t matter what you\'re sculpting for, only size and complexity should govern price at your level.

I don\'t know what the going rates are exactly for minis but they\'re not as high as you might imagine for historicals and minis could be cheaper simply for being smaller. Of course it may not work out that way at all and the prices in different sectors of modelling might bear no relation to each other.
