1st piece of my Dark Angel army!! Tabletop level Veteran Sergeant

He\'s looking very good. Not quite the normal tone for Dark Angels but no worse for it. I really like the range of colours in the armour and the little bright blue areas give a nice bit of contrast. Shame the new rules for Dark Angels are so crap. Hope you don\'t have unusual squad sizes planned.

I admire your attempt to do an army to a really high standard. At least with Marines you don\'t need so many.

My tabletop standard certainly isn\'t just a few base colours and a flocked base, although it isn\'t quite this either!

You could use GD as a way to build up your army to a really high standard. A squad for squad obviously, your commander for single, a big termy for monster, a tank or Dread for vehicle etc. It would be a great way to make a force that could compete for Best Army at a few tournaments in a year or so!

I agree witl Lono that the GD\'s is a cool way to build fantastic looking armies, and I know thats how a few tournament players do it over here in the Uk.

This sergeant is also very, very similar in colour and tone to your FW Templar dread of your own chapters, could you fit this into your army somehow?

To me something just doesn\'t work with the compostion of parts on this model.

For starters the mag pouch on the shoulder pad appears to be in an impractical place and has nothing holding it to the shoulder pad.

Secondly as has been said already the model looks very top heavy.

The loin cloth seems very small and doesn\'t seem to have a point being there, maybe he has caught some toilet paper in his armour???

The small shield on his right shoulder appears to be mounted too high, if he where to hang his arms loosely at his sides or stand at attention it looks like it will be pointing at the ceiling.

Its difficult to tell from the photos but it does appear that he has a different style of gauntlet on each hand.

So far it just appears to be a model with lots of pieces put together without a coherent theme.

Maybe the paint job will tie the components together, though that remains to be seen.

Someone always has to come around and give overly-critical comments on great minis just to be different (T-R-O-L-L-I-N-G).

No its simply someone giving criticism which is far more helpful than sychophantic praise. I would rather have genuine criticism and praise of a piece than people simply saying tis marvellous because of who produced it.

@ainolanour (sp?) im sure seeing as you quoted my post you will have read the part where i say that maybe the paint scheme will tie all the components together. Well guess what? im waiting to see more work on the paintjob to see how the model will work as a whole, then i will either give praise or further criticism.

WIP is the perfect place to criticise as it gives people the chance to have a second look at models at things they may have missed and then improve on them.

As for the T-R-O-L-L-I-N-G comment i believe it is considered forum etiquette to refrain from personal attacks.

ps i did a totally different tabard, a monk gown open on the front and swirling back.

Ps who saw this model in real life had to agree that the top heavy effect is just a photo effect ^^

I don\'t know why but sometimes when you photograph a mix of metal and plastic parts metal components can appear smaller, something to do with reflections i think???

As for the new tabard i\'ll keep an eye out for your next set of photos.

The head is from the tactical upgrade sprue from the Space Marine Tactical Squad box. It\'s a great head, I\'m using it on my scratchbuilt veteran as well.

Great work so far Tony, I can\'t wait to see more.
