Hi all, here are my newest (and probably last) minis for 2006. Well, The Reaper was completed in January, and the Rackham just last week. Both were painted in NMM, which I\'m still trying to get the hang off. The Reaper was my first attempt at NMM gold. With the Rackham, I used a different recipe for gold, the results of which I was quite pleased with.

Comments and feedback appreciated!

Hiya, I just changed my avatar to the one you are using out of coincidence cos the default one made many misunderstood me for a lady lol. :D

Ok back to the minis. Not sure what you meant when you say probably last minis for 2006. Hope isn\'t something bad. I feel the gold looks a little too pale/lack of depth but it could be just a matter of personal taste. However, I really dig those chrome blades! They look fantastic.

The freehand on the female tabard is a nice touch and both minis have very nice basework done. I noticed the skintone on the Rackham model is same/close to that of the armour. Not sure it that\'s intended. 8.5 for both minis! Hope I\'m not too harsh on the scores.

Sorry to hear you won\'t be painting more all of 06! These look great, first one got an 8 and second a 9 from me. You have to work more on your skin tones though, they look a bit out of place.

Good look otherwise, nice NMM :)

I don\'t personally see that

Taste is taste, aye, but you\'re talking top level scores for only over-average paint jobs. A 9 is almost sacrosanct in my world, where as a 10 is very, very, very rare indeed. I vote these in the 7\'s (though I apologise for making an example), and they ain\'t bad at all. Too small to tell much more, but as a person who posts small, I can barely complain lol

I agree the pics are small...but so are minis!! I think we tend to forget the scale of these things while looking at the pics.

I think they both look very cool, and I ususally vote on first impressions...The NMM gold is very well done.

I gave them both 8\'s. Then I went back and gave them both 9\'s.....Is that allowed? I think they are both high eights!

EDIT....and if Reverend doesn\'t like \"GO *UCK Yourself **\".....

lollollol (great little sig Rev...I about fell over when I originally saw that on Family Guy.)

thanks everyone for the votes and comments!

Rev, you have high standards, and that\'s quite OK! :p Will try harder next time (takes out self flagellation device...)

The gold on the Reaper Justicar was a base of bleached bone, shaded with bleached bone + khaki + brown ink, highlighted with bleached bone + white. Then glazed all over with lemon yellow ink, highlighted with white, outlined with chaos black+bestial brown. And finally small glaze here and there with chestnut ink to warm up the shadow bits. This was my first go at gold NMM, so it was a bit of trial and error.

The Rackham was done quite differently. The gold bits were snake bite leather + goblin green. Then shaded by adding chaos black to the mix, and highlighted by adding white until the edges which are pure white. Again, a bit of trial and error here.

Already thinking of a new gold nmm recipe to try out!

I like the pieces :)

I just get a little wound up when people go crazy with that scoring button lol

Still, it\'s a matter of personal choice.

@Rev: Actually, I think these are wonderful, and deserve the scores I gave. If you give out 7\'s to an awesome job, well... that is your deal, but then I\'m just glad you gave my Wardancer \"7ish\" :p Must mean it\'s good then ;)

A great job deserves a great score... and to be frank, if you vote 7 on these, in my opinion your thinking too much of yourself :D

Yours was certainly good. And quite right, I was thinking of myself in respect of the fact that I have a standard system that I\'m positive is in keeping with a 1-10 system. A 7-8 is bloody good :D

Quite what you meant though with your version of \'thinking of yourself\' goes over my head somewhat. I\'m sure it was an accusation of some sort, but speaking in riddles is a waste of my time lol

@reverend: Nah, no accusation intended, just an observation ;) But I think we all have our little systems to go by, and it\'s also a matter of personal preference, what some might think is worth a 9 others might think is worth a 6... wich is why, in the end, the score is somewhat off, but should still indicate how well the work is... Anyways, it\'s all about having fun and learning :D (yeah yeah, winners never cry :p)

ooh, tough crowd at CMON. Looks like it\'s getting harder to impress around here these days. I think standards (and expectations!) are constantly being raised by the excellent posts from the pros and highly talented amateurs!:) I\'ll admit I\'ve been getting quite snooty myself - a vote for 9 a year ago would probably only garner an 8 today!

It\'s like there\'s a CMON voting inflation index :D hehe, maybe we could build a virtual CMON score exchange, where you can place bets on the ups and downs of particular pieces!

Still, I\'m just glad to be able to share and get some feedback from other people!
