I\'m getting really depressed watching all these great miniatures :(

Corvus, if you can and are willing to do it, please post this as an article with the images in the article, so I can print it and keep it as a reminder of the wonderful talent available on CMON.

Again, thanks for this great post!

I plan on making an article from this thread, but I\'m not going to include all the pictures, only some highlights.

the article is complete now... I\'ll now try to make an article of it and submit it to the CMON articles sections

I hope you liked my short overview!!

Corvus, outstanding post (or should I say article???) it\'s a joy to read through and the time you took to add all the links makes even that much better.

Even being mentioned in the same post, let alone the same sentence as some of the increadible talent you picked out is such an honor. In fact that little rush I think has gotten me through my latest painting block, as I write this holding my paint brush in my teath as I\'m waiting for the primer to dry on the mini for my latest project!

Thank you for your work Corvus

-Eric

How queer!

Got me to thinking...do you really think that Alexi is taking over from Haley? A nice article Corvus, but come on, Haley is a far superior painter. I\'d even venture to say that if this Alexi girl (excellent though she is) was a pug ugly chap or a most ordinary lady, she would score 8\'s rather than 9\'s. She may well improve further and my hope is that she does so, but I have a nagging doubt about people\'s motives in these instances lol.

Cyril has blown my mind on many occasions recently and I hope he continues to do so. Thomas passed me by but you helpfully brought him to my attention. The guy is excellent.

I\'d suggest that your use of 9+ is the right way to go, but I\'d love to see 8.5+ if someone has the time to compile it. I really think that some names hover just below 9 because they aren\'t into huge conversions and don\'t have pretty female bodies :innocent:. I\'d put my old mucker Sturmhalo forward in that respect as well as petethemighty. There are loads others and its good to have someone pushing this stuff into the forums again because we can all have a good gawp at it all.

You do us proud Corvus and I\'m going to have a look at the other posts you put up in relation to this one.

Just realised Pete does have figures up there but isn\'t as prolific as some painters...he\'s got too much sculpting on his plate! But you get the drift :D

As a very brief outline of the year this was pretty good and I was pointed at some good minis that I\'d missed.

I do recall a heck of a lot of great minis not included though by lots of varying artists. I suppose your thread would have to be many pages long to get a proper resume though...

Reverend, I think you may be off track with your assumptions in this case reguarding Alexi_Z.

The fact of the matter is that her top ranking minis all have 350+ votes. While I admit she is a beautiful girl in a male dominated hobby, honestly how many of those votes even read the forums or have any idea what she looks like. On top of that, I would bet those who are taking the time to be active here in the forums would tend to judging minis with a much more critical eye (I know I\'ve given maybe two 10\'s in 7k+ votes, neither to Alexi). So even if there was an influence it might be a .1 difference, not a .5 or full point in the score as you suggest. If anything, on several occasions I\'ve thought her minis were harshly rated here.

Look closely at her nmm, her use of light, the composition of her minis. She deserves to be a top 10 painter here. Could she improve? of course, I look forward to seeing it in \'05.

That\'s what we need another annual book for! :bouncy:

I think Haley is a great painter... Much better than me... Her works always inspire me... I dont have enough experience yet, because I paint only 2 years... Maybe in next year I can paint better.... :flip:

I myself have been thinking that the most recent posts from Alexi_Z have been lacking in \"passion\".I do think that some are harshly scored but looking at them I cant help but think that they dont compare to her earlier stuff.
Saying that I do believe that she deserves to be where she is in the rankings.
I would have liked to have seen Petethemighty\'s own Spirit of Vigour up there. One of the most inspiring paintjobs I have seen.
I have to say that by far the best thing on this site last year for me has to be from Thomas with The Queen of Crime.Absolutely outstanding.

Great work Gerrie and thank you.

Good work Gerrie!

I enjoyed reading that:D

Rev, I take your point, but there is also a danger of penalising poor Alexi just because she is drop-dead gorgeouslol

Not a problem most of us are likely to face:flip: Especially you, me, Gerrie etc etc...:bouncy:

Alexi: Ignore the old fart:D

Perhaps. But I doubt it. There\'s only one \"gorgeous\" that makes me vote 9\'s and 10\'s, and it sometimes looks like this

That is all.

(I don\'t mean to embarrass you Alexi, but it\'s true, you are a very skilled painter. I suspect you spend a lot of time painting; this hobby rewards perspiration far more than inspiration, after all)

As i see it, the problem is not the fact that she gets a couple of extra tens, but that the scum that is affected by gender when voting is the same scum who snipe people that they, for whatever reason, don\'t like. Even though the worst snipes get deleted in time, for a new mini to get a few 1\'s has serious impact over the next few hours. That is the case because the casual voter is very influenced by the rating the mini already has when they vote... all I\'m saying is that while a few extra 10\'s instead of 9\'s don\'t do jack for a 350 vote figure, being in the clear with the worst snipers can seriously boost your ratings.

Now thats painted with passion.

I think things even themselves out.For each person that gives Alexi_Z an extra point for who she is,another will deduct one for exactly the same reason.I remember saying exactly the same about Tammy.

Back on topic,,,I cant wait till 2006 for the next instalment,
How about a monthly or quarterly lookback?

EDIT ......Japex.......dont even go there:D

Yah, snipers are annoying, let\'s bitch about that for a while ;)

A quarterly review would certainly make the reviewer\'s job easier...

Hmm..

Japex, you seem particularly sensitive for a person who doesn\'t have a gallery. Nothing wrong with that, neither do I. But why the pain and angst over \'scum\' who can\'t even affect you???

Anybody who tries to examine the system that closely, or feel that deeply about it simply should not be posting to this site. CMON is unfair, unjust, biased etc. But so is life. Get over it:D

Thanks everyone for the kind words, it is very much appreciated.

As for the Alexi vs Haley discussion: That\'s my personal opinion in the first place. But it\'s true that Alexi made a lot of submissions last year, and Haley did only one...

Anyway, congratulations to everyone who made it to the article!
