We were going to go to LA this year as well....like, there are tons of stuff for wife and I to do in LA.

Baltimore on the other hand..i've been through there.....yeah...they could steamroll that place into a parking lot, and I don't think anyone would notice.....

Oh well...

Shopping though and pubs, restaurants can be found in many cities...especially Europe and places like Montreal...

but beaches, clubs, night parties, shopping, etc (mainly night life) is much better in Los Angeles (2nd/3rd only to like Vegas and New York). it was the reason we decided not to go to Baltimore this year...and instead, go to Los Angeles...and then it got cancelled :(

Too bad there's no LA games day (and probably not another one in the foreseeable future). I was hoping I'd be able to go next year! Maybe I can save up some money for a plane ticket...

Yeah i lived in L.A for a little while. Possibly because i live in NYC, i have a bias opinion becuase this is the best city in the world, but L.A freaking sucked. at least the city part

ReaperCon has started using the open judging system and, if I understan things correctly, allow all manufacturers. There's a quite good yearly historical model show in Chicago. I wouldn't be surprised if they, like most European historical model shows, have fantasy classes nowadays.

This is true.

This year was their first year that they decided to go with that format and it made the show very interesting. They had trophies for Reaper stuff and medals for non Reaper stuff but it was still accorded the same consideration when judging. A lot more interesting pieces showed up and there was a ton of stuff this year. Plus they don't have a set number of medals to hand out. If it's a gold medal model then it gets the award.

I was pleased with the organization of the competition at Reaper Con. It was my first medal too.

Being a life long Maryland resident and having lived that entire time about 45 minutes from Baltimore I can fairly and honestly say that while there are large chunks of it that are :poop: theres plenty of fun spots to check out and if you are going to be driving or renting a car then there is lots to do. As has been mentioned Fells Point is a good time, as well as the inner harbor. But there are lots of other great spots for instance the Walter's Art Gallery, The Visionary Art Musuem (all self trained artists very interesting), there is the aquarium, the science center, the area around St. Paul street makes for a nice walk. If you can get around a bit there is lots to do within minutes of the city in Towson and Owings Mills. I can't recall where off the top of my head but I also seem to remember a battle bunker being near the city. As far as beaches most of the the shore near baltimore isn't all that great (beaches on bays aren't very dramatic but if your gonna be in the area for a while and have a couple days Ocean City and Rehobeth Beach (as long as you don't mind :rainbow:) are both fairly nice though it is the off season and both of them are only a couple hours drive from the city.

Just remember that just because we have one of the highest murder rates per capita, heroin use rates per capita, and bench warrents get filled out for more felonies then parking tickets doesn't mean you can't have fun besides the Orioles suck and the Raven's are disapointing so we gotta compete for some sorta championship.

Bah! You guys are hard to please. Nothing to do? Beer and buddies. What more do you need? Find a place with clean(ish) mugs, cold(ish) beer, and get to telling true(ish) stories. Growing up in small (comparitively) population centers has meant most of us Canadians have to invent our own good times.

The thing I look most forward to when I finally make my way to one of these events is meeting the people. I could care less about museums 'n learnin' stuff. But that's me. Though I will take a couple extra days when I go to Switzerland to take in the scenery and stuff.

hehe..i turned this to a travel/tourism thread...

Yeah, we're just upset cause we like night life, all night clubs, wild parties, beaches, etc :p hehe

Los Angeles, New York, Vegas, hell ...(Rio de Janeiro would be ideal) would be better locations for like a 1 week vacation, than Baltimore...

:)

Remember GD LA wasn't in LA but way outside the city.. where I understand there want much to do. Not saying that you couldn't combine the two locals but most people go in and out to GD over the weekend and don't take week long holidays. I say come to Balti for the weekend and take a proper holiday elsewhere.. but hey that's just me talking..

being from Redondo Beach, i can say that G.D.L.A. was not in L.A. by a long shot...
Ontario is out towards the desert, a 2-3 hour drive from the beach...

Baltimore is only worth it if you are after the Games Day experience...
if you want a vacation, go to Rio...

Games Day is about linkin' up with your buddies, seein' some awesome painted minis, showin' off a little, and havin' a laugh...
doesn't really matter where it is...

i don't think i'll be headin' out to GD this year, as i'll be on the beach in Mexico, surfin', smokin', and soakin' up the sun...

cheers
jah
