2nd completed mini ever.... grrrrr

[Rigged4Mini]

This is my 2nd completed mini and I just bought a new camera and I think I\'m doing something wrong..The edges of my figure seem jagged and I\'m not sure why they are so. The picture seems a little grainy as well (possibly because to much sharpness.)

I need alot more practice and all the fields..but atleast I didn\'t quit after my first one.

My third one is on my work bench right now.

Nice work for just your second mini.

Did you remove the background of the original pic in PS and add a new one? If so there\'s a really good tutorial by Spacemunkie here somewhere... I\'ll have a look for it.

Yes i did..i added a new background and thats why my mini looks so jagged.. I can\'t figure out how to smooth out the edges..

I tried using contract, expand, and smooth in photoshop and couldnt get it to work properly. It made my figure look one demensional and flat.

Good strong reds, toned metals. very neat too.

Using a printed background will let you avoid the problem. Maybe you got some noise in sharpening, try smart sharpen and bring radius down to .2-.3 pixels maybe. If the focus is good, you can sometimes skip sharpening too.

nice second. biggest problems i see are the base (looks unfinished/out of place) and the shield area (the straps and bronze are a bit flat).

There\'s a tutorial here for Photoshopping backgrounds in - the key is fuzzy selections to smooth ouot the jaggies... but it\'s explained better in the article.

I\'m actually proud of the 2nd mini.. but I\'m very dissapointed in the actual picture I took.. I spent about 4 hours taking pics, editing etc.

I agree the base is kinda bland as I have never made one. The base I have for my 3rd mini is lightyears better then then one on my 2nd.

NIce mini, you will end up with some really good stuff.
I use a sony cam myself, and some of the tricks for easy shooting a little better is - ajusting your white balance to the type of light your using (menu-P-(rightclick till you get to)- white bal. There is different settings for using daylight/lightbulp/spot and the \"long lightbulps\"(extremely ugly word, but don\'t know the english term :duh)
another is setting your EV, play a little with that, -0,3 to -1,0 seems to bring out colors nicely in bad lighting.(P - right click).
You can also use these in the macro mode, or any other for that matter, not just the P-mode.
You can do similar things in PS, but it\'s easier to start out with good/better fotos anyway.

Don\'t worry about the photo too much - the quality of the pic is pretty good, in focus clear colours etc. As such, it\'s easy to see that this is a eally well painted mini, especially as it\'s only your second completed one. The base is definitely the weak point but you know that. I love the skull - nicely worked, and the back of the shield too. Looking forward to your third ...and fourth, and fifth etc

Some very nice work here, the base lets it down slightly for display, but is spot on for gaming- look forward to watching your progress!

it looks good. next step for you, I think, is to learn how to highlght and shade properly. so that you can make thing pop and make you mini different from the rest!
