3 day paint job

Hi guys .. Ive got a bit of a problem.. I told my daughter last week id paint a mini for her to take to school for Friday...

Well Ive got 3 days left & i need help.. here is the mini

Now what i need is any idea of how to paint it & what colors.. any and all help in most welcomed

just remeber you not only helping me but a sweet 6 yearold.. so lets get them ideas flowing ... thanks all

you could go for traditional white it being a unicorn or brown for time

Yep I\'d go for white but using a blue for shade. I think blue with white would make it look magical....get painting already

White with blue is traditionsl and would make a 6 yera ofl girl giggle with pelasure. me however... i say black with flameing mane and tail... give us an evil unicorn!

Yup agree with the blue shadows, looks cool
I\'d go with SW grey to have a desaturated blue that dosn\'t clash too much.
WingZ: have you done the white yet ? If yes, then I think it needs more shadow, a lot more. Rest looks nice. You\'re going to have one happy little girl

yeah i did the white.. I guess you cant see the blue under it to good in the pic... should i just go over the whole body with SW gray then dry brush white?

I would say use very diluted SW grey and pass it where the shadows goes, drybrushing white usually gives off horendous results, ans your mini dosn\'t have enougth relief for drybrush me thinks. You can then do a couple of bluish washes and then highlight with white.

unless you can do drybrushing perfectly...the unicorn will end up looking dusty...thats usually the effect from drybrushing if its not done correctly.yeah i agree with SW grey as a shadow...maybe start with pure sw in the deepest shadow and blend white into it till you get back to a non shadow part...and your back to white.

Wow thx for all the feed back guys.. its helping alot.. so now how do i do the shadows?.. do i just paint a part SW gray then try to blend it to white? if so how big of any area do i do?.. Ive never done shadows befor so Im really lost...

Hi Wing. I just had a thought that you could of painted it like a \'my little pony\' On a serious note i would have the main mass of the area an off-white (space wolves grey/white) and only use a little pure white for higlights. BUT i guess you don\'t want to paint a master piece when alot of it may be overlooked by your 6 year old daughter It might be best to just use bright, bold colours that would be more appealing to a 6 yr old rather than spending hours getting that blending right.... Thinking about it why not do a \'my little pony\' with red painted hearts all over it or something? :idea:

I dig the my little pony idea but the mini is a little to butch of it.. hell i had to shave off his bitz .. you know down there so she can take him to school lol.. I want to paint it the best i can.. cause Bec.. my daughter wants to take it for show n tell..

So Are you saying I shouls paint the whole thing SW gray then try to hight light up to white? if so what the best way of going about this?.. this is my first time paint anything but armor lol

I would keep the white.
Now get some Space wolves grey, on a brush and dollop in on a clean idealy white glazed tile or mixing pallette.
Now get a small amount of water and mix it with the SW grey untill its a milky consistancy.
Put some on your brush, wipe excess off on a paper towel, untill there is only a bit left.
Now gently put in on the bit that would be darker Try in between the ribs to start with.
Thats the technique, basically, you can then add a little white with the SW grey and gradually lighten it towards the highlighted parts

ok this shadow stuff has got me stumped.. I dont think i can do it with out seeing someone do it in front of me.. so heres what i got

The shadows look pretty good.

If you want to know where to paint shadows, just get a lamp and turn off the lights. Shine the lamp from the direction you want the light to come from, and you should clearly see where the shadows fall on the body.

its hard to paint like that, so just kinda mark the areas with some thinned down paint, then go back and fill the areas out.

Also, paint the base green and add some flock, always improves the look of any mini dramatically.

For best results i would do what Krom says but this could take you a while and i guess your running out of time (no pressure intended ) What you could do is have a look on the GW site in the lord of the rings hobby section> painting horses. I would of given you the link but they are having an internal error at the moment (whatever that means) The gw way would be faster and give you nice clean results without having to learn a new technique. All the best and i hope it works out for you. Oh btw Cmon have alot of articles that might help you.

thanks for the feed back guys.. im going to try to do a snow base on it.. cause i dont have any flock & cant get to twon to get any lol.. so im goingot try and make snow with baking soda & glue..
