Time flies! As much as the Beatles' ubiquity often annoys me (what, no other band of that era was influential and interesting?) they were influential and interesting. I'm glad the estate of MJ has (from what I understand) somewhat released its stranglehold on their back catalogue, that was a freakish money-grabbing travesty that did not serve the world of music one iota. If you want younger people to ever HEAR about a band they have to be able to buy the mp3's - we're about five years away from "What's a CD?"

I remember that day very clearly...I was 12, and every radio station was playing Lennon's songs. It was very somber.

Was there ever any reason why that freak shot Lennon in the first place?

I think we're there already. Son 8 and Daughter 5, and I probably could ask them to pick up the CD on the table and they wouldn't know what it is. Yet I've got two old iPod shuffles on my desk that they keep asking when I'm going to set up for them.

Never really understood the lure of the Beatles. Yeah, several catchy tunes. Guess just not my style. And it took me until I was 27 to get the pun in the name.

Interesting to speculate what his influence on music would be if he had lived, would he have continued to be as relevant?

Interesting thread title...the next line being "sergeant pepper taught the band to play".....though I fear that Apple now hold the stranglehold on the back catalogue.

what is really a shame is Judas priest just announced their calling it quits after 4 decades. And Brian Johnson from ACDC is retiring also.Keith, steven, mick and those other old guys are already zombies arn't they.
