BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Hear that, 40K gamers, you\'re FREAKS! Of course, you\'ve probably spent less on your army than that reporter has spent on obscure \"Europe\" bootlegs lol

Seriously, not the most in-depth or most flattering report, and I wish he\'d found some more um, articulate gamers to interview (I\'m looking at you, red army-tray guy!), but it was generally done with a sympathetic eye and he eventually found the \"diversity\" he was looking for. (He should have come to my FLGS, I think there are several women and a \"little person\" who play there :))

Still...very interesting. The addition of the EUROPE music seemed a bit odd...like he wasn\'t sure if he should mock them or not.

so you\'re saying the nearest group of female gamers to New Zealand is in Canada?

The Europe interludes got quite annoying. Kind of like they needed to fill time and the reporter couldn\'t think of anything to say.
Not very in depth reporting anyway - nothing whatsoever about the history.
Still, it ended on a high note:
\"it doesn\'t matter your sex, your race, what your background is. Once you\'re in you\'re in and that\'s what it\'s all about.\"
-and said by a reasonably attractive female.

I interpreted it as a subtle way of saying \"everyone has their obsessions\"... in his case listening to \"Europe\". I might have been reading too much into it though.

I always imagined Bolt Thrower or Iron Maiden would be better accompaniment to war gaming, myself.

Guys and girls our light night news on channel 3 has about 10 minutes of serious stuff and the rest is really just guff and fluff.

The reason it didn\'t go indepth was because it was a time filler and a bit of a piss take. Not like it was covering a major event or anything interesting was happening with the hobby or industry locally.

Yeah, my first thought was that it\'s an \'and finally\' style fluff news piece, and these are meant to be entertaining.

It seems that the journalist has decided that wargaming is not exactly a visual treat (and wherever he was filming this is true!) so he thought putting Europe over the shots of the player\'s stoic, serious faces would be rather amusing, and I have to say I thought it was pretty funny. A nice bit of juxtaposition.

When I play I get involved, I cheer good rolls, I make sound effects, I mock my opponent, I enjoy myself, whereas these chaps seem to take it far to seriously and deserve to have the piss taken a bit!

Blue Oyster Cult used to be the gamers music. Especailly if you were playing anything based on Michael Moorcock\'s books.

I paint my thumb.
What an outrageous display of biased \"reporting\" and narrowminded association of
hobby/style/lifestyle.

He did not even mention the skill, patience and concentration needed to paint the minis or incredible therapeutic qualities of the hobby.
Ridiculous...
And why is he wasting so much time on the guy/girl ratio ? Was he looking for a date there ?
So what are those freaks supposed to be doing, mr. \"reporter\"? Watching TV? Clubbing? Playing WOW?
Computer gaming is trendy now, cause it\'s technological and big companies make tremendous amounts of money with it. But tabletop gaming is freakish... but as far as playing is concerned, it\'s pretty much the same, with a material side, something you can touch and feel, and paint.

As for myself, I would play the game if I had
an army.. but I\'m no fucking geek.
And I don\'t mind geeks either.
Go ahead be freak, be creative... be a geek
It\'s way better than being a Yuppy if you ask me:]

In my experience there\'s a more estrogen-friendly ratio in RPG\'s than tabletop gaming. Not too sure what the difference between d20\'s and d6\'s is but I guess that\'s why I don\'t work for a major gaming company (anymore!) lol

Anyway I think I would have to agree that the biggest diversity of gamers would be the 40k crowd. You see everything from goths, punks, skaters, bodybuilders to people who think they\'re Klingons. Some times all around the same table :p

Once in a while I think they drag in some regular joe off the street as well. Just for fun.

lol Gamers in general are considered a weird breed think about it most gamers are above average with intellegence and imagination and the gaming subcultures do not come from popular clicks.

As far as girl gamers the best ratio of girls comes in LARPs, then table top, and of course the war games because the wargames are more about plotting and stratigy then imagination and interaction.

The ladies who game like the creativity and social aspects of gaming rather then the mechnical aspects.

Hmm... I can\'t really seem them playing Bolt Thrower on the news, it certainly would be sweet though! I have to find a copy of Warmaster on vinyl. I have RoC hanging above my mini display case. Cost me a pretty penny to get it here in the states.

I\'m also trying to track down the Wraith album that GW put out in the early 90\'s with the Space Marine artwork.

I think the Europe is just one of those classic montage songs. It is epic, yet cheesy, and it just fits.

I just discovered BT\'s entire catalog is available from eMusic which I\'m a member of. I\'ll have to print their awesome CD covers myself but for what I\'m paying I can\'t complain. As for vinyl... good luck.

Here it is. I was blown away when I got it, as the art FAR surpassed my expectations. I\'d get it out and snap some more pics if I weren\'t so lazy. It has a sick picture of Deathwing Termies fighting Tyranids in the gatefold, and a killer insert with lyrics and tons of art.
