The main character of the new comedy file 40 year old Virgin is a mini painter. Supposedly hes pretty good too. One review stated,

\"Among his prize possessions are action figures, including of the Six Million Dollar Man (and the Six Million Dollar Man\'s boss) and miniature toy soldiers he meticulously paints under a magnifying glass, imparting to them a richness of detail absent from his own life.\":D

Nah, he basicly just base coats them and doesn\'t even use primer. And his scores would hurt because he does historical pieces... not GW or Rackham.

It\'s a new film thats come out called \"40 year old virgin\" and it\'s about, a.....40 year old virgin (shock, horror)

And apparently he paints minis (but what that says about this community i\'ll never know lol)

Obviously this is to underline (once again) that only mini painters are nerdy enough to stay virigns until they are 40...
Anyway I don\'t like this kind of movie. It\'s like a teen comedy with grown-ups (At least I think so, I don\'t know the movie and I am not going to watch it).

Yah, you can get magnifying attachments for glasses as well as headsets (e.g. Optivisor) I bought one of my own recently as the ol\' eyes are going for real closeup detail work... it\'s all downhill from your 30s :D

Or did you mean an actual magnifying glass with a handle? :)

Well I\'m just glad I\'m not a 40 year old virgin who paints minis. One out of three is bad enough! (And yes, I do mean the figure painting!).

lol

Now if I can just do a Rev and give up figure painting, I\'ll be happy to reach 40!

I thought it was an interesting premise for a film, but isn\'t the idea that he\'s actually come CLOSE a number of times, but somehow messes up each one? Jeez. I suspect your average 40 year old virgin hasn\'t even talked to a woman in years (women in Everquest don\'t count).

If I still hadn\'t lost it by now I\'d have gone ahead and hired a professional. Worry about the moral implications of that afterwards. And I\'m only 30.

Like Escape to Victory or something. I can be Sly Stallone! I\'ll let in loads of goals to change the course of Hollywood history lol

I meant magnifying attachment. I have never seen anyone who actually used one. It makes the brush and everything uner it big. So, there doesn\'t seem to be a need for it.

Well yes, I do. Well actually I use the light that is attached to the magnifying glass which is atteched to a moveable arm to provide light to the mini I am painting. I only use the glass on occasion to look at the mini afterward and realize what a lousy painter I am. :innocent:

Besides I don\'t think I can get as fine detail if I apply the paint with the glass as I can with a brush.

Fortunately I\'m not 40 ... I\'m 44. :p

I would answer EXACTLY the same as Tzor (must be something in the water). I bought the thing intending to use it, and found it more annoying then anything. So now I just use the light and use the glass for checking the mini (it\'s scarey!).

As far as The earlier question about the six million dollar man - The guys full name was Oscar Goldman, and the actor that portrayed him (Richard Anderson) was the first actor in Television history to ever play the same character on two currently running TV programs at the same time; The six million dollar man and The Bionic Woman.

So do I win the Uber-nerd award or what?
