40K Guardsman..........sculpt/conversion WIP

I wanted to produce a figure that was more at ease so I thought that using component parts and some wire, in a Bill Horan Stylee, I could achieve this.

skipping a few steps, here is the head I will use.....;

the idea being to carve off the ramboesque bandana and hair, and add new details later.

The legs had details carved off then the boots were removed and the legs cut at the crotch. Wire was inserted and the legs fleshed out with putty:

next, the trousers were resculpted with patch pockets added matching the original plastic legs......and I added turned up trousers for some character;

The standard torso was re-attached and the tunic skirt added, ass was a kit knife strapped to his leg, and also the head placed just to get a feel of the composition:

so thats where I\'m at! Comments, thoughts, suggestions gladly accepted and always considered, but not always followed!!!!!!!!! :D

The sculpting looks rather good, but the anatomy is a bit wrong somehow to my eyes. He looks compacted in a way, a bit midgetesque.

Perhaps it is just because the legs are green and the torso is grey and this is all throwing me off, but I\'m not sure. Also the head being so bulky isn\'t helping things I don\'t think.

Of course a basecoat could completely change my opinion.

thats quite funny! Cos he\'s actually taller than a standard guardsman! I\'ll take a pic of him next to an assembled guardsman to illustrate! Now those guys are midgets.

The head probably looks big because its sticking a bit high on the wire but will be seated deeper into his neck

Wasn\'t that what you said about your Inquisitor bust? ;)

Aye the comparisson would be useful to see. Like I say, I suspect it could just be the difference in tone between the legs and torso which is throwing me off.

This is looking great and your sculpting is very cool, something I struggle with greatly so kudos to you.

It all looks in proportion to me, but I think the thing that may be leading people to think he is a bit \'midgety\' (if that aint a real word it should be!) is the turnups on the trousers. They start just below the knees, giving the impression of stumpy lil\' legs.

Nothing the paint job can\'t fix however!

Nice work, do you have any concept scetches or ideas for the arms and head yet?

Cheers all

OrkyDave; maybe it is those turn-ups; we\'ll see when everything else is added!
No concept sketches..his pose is based on a 54mm figure I have.......wire has now been added for the arms

Ogrebane; seems to be the general concensus - but he is taller than a regular plasic cadian; guess no-ones noticed how squat those guys really are!

Mr D; once he gets pouches and stuff added, there will be no room for a jacket....nice idea though

Mr Fist; this is where you have to be patient.......I\'ve always seen this face as grimacing with clenched teeth......now imaging a big fat cigar between his teeth, all will hopefully be revealed!!!!

updates very soon, including a Cadian comparison shot

The amorphous blob is the basis for a Buttpack to be added together with the reat of his kit.

to give an idea of his real size, here\'s an approximation of his true size in photo form
bodyactual.jpg

and to give a comparison to a standard \"kit\" guardsman....

I need to do more details on his goggles now, plus add some hair, and position the wire for his arms properly before adding bulk....

Looking very cool!!!

just adding the knife to the slacks helps de midgify ot IMHO, and the arms (albeit flailey bendy wire ones at the minute also help the legs look the right size.

Love the way this is progressing

de midgify now there is a cool word..

I\'m liking it so far. I reckon as the details are added the shape will pan out..
proportionally it is just ever so slightly out but when painted the effect will lessen due to the fact that it will look like material at the minute it is fooling us all int thinking it\'s muscly....

The main thing I\'ve noticed on the cadians is the sizeof there fecking hands they\'r like monkey soldiers.

Anyway keep it up I\'m looking forward to progress.
