Coffin Dodger / Keymaster
Premise: Build your favorite 20th level 4th ed. character for a one-shot adventure.
Setting/Prep: DM \'re-skinned\' a few monsters to get what he was looking for - so nobody really knew what we were up against. We did know we were in/near a volcano so everyone geared for fire types.
Findings:
Combat is still slow. 4th ed monsters have a LOT of hit points. There is considerably less dice rolling in the combat. My dwarven 2 weapon fighter would only roll 2 attacks in a round barring the use of some special abilities/feats. Party of 6 took the first 3 hours to get through the first combat.
Mages have been toned down a bunch. The blood mage pulled off one great attach that pushed a bad guy down a very steep incline - that multiplied the amount of push that he would normally have done. That was the only time I saw more than 50 points of damage done all night - even with 2 fighters.
There is still lots of looking up of abilities/feats. I\'m guessing that 20th level is still above what most of us have in our \'normal\' play, so we were all looking up what \'daily\' or \'encounter\' things to use.
