The red is really really beautiful.

But Skin and metal should heave more highlights and shadows in my opinion. Simply more depth

I am happy with the metal it's what I was aiming for, I agree with the skin though, I painted it by lamplight which is never a great idea for faces I think but I wanted this guy gone. Also I might give him some pupils, I haven't decided yet as his blank eyes were supposed to represent an inner power but since his face is knid of flat I may have to give his eyes some life.

Thanks, yes the gun is from a Sentinel. Shortened the barrel a bit and added a new muzzle, there's a pre-paint pic in my blogger link.

Hi Jazz, nice clean metals indeed. The white eyes is a tricky one to sell. The example mini that springs to mind is the GW Astropath but that has a cowl & more "magical" appearance. The standard approach seems to be very heavy shading around the eyes, perhaps with a tattoo/makeup element of design to it to draw attention to the fact that there's something special about the eyes (sell the reason that they're not normal). A tiny glaze of an unnatural colour rather than pure white might help?

My other thought is to add to the mini elsewhere to sell the special nature of the eyes. If the gun had a big telescopic sight on it'd be easier as you could put a blindfold around it to sell the fact that he doesn't need a visial aid. An embroidered insignia on shoulder of a white eyed Cyclops head?

Perhaps the simplest would be to white OSL the eye? That way it'd give good reason for the flesh tone to not be as fully highlighted as it could be taken to.

Anyway, just thoughts Nice paintwork & I think it's obvious you're a good enough painter that you haven't just chickened out of putting in pupils, the eyes are like that on purpose - not as easy to tell on some Gallery entries

Thanks for the comments BPI, I think that's the best feedback I've had for ages I should probably post my minis before I condemn them as "complete" because once I take them off their painting plynth they are pretty much over. I think I'll do this in future.

For what it's worth though I agree with what you've said. A small tattoo or unnaturally heavy shading to the under eyes would be just right (though for this fellow I might not go for the heavy shading, as I don't see him as a doomed creature being consumed by his raging psychic essence which is the feeling I get from the Guard psykers, but rather a potential hero in full control of his power).

I might be able to stretch to a glaze on the eyes however, maybe a nice purple would add to the character of this guy.
