54mm questions...

As an occasional painter, I wouldn\'t lean towards your work for the reasons that have already been mentioned re the wide open spaces on the figures. They\'d be a nightmare to fill for the majority of painters. The style is - I believe - an ouflow of your painting style, i.e., I reckon you sculpted figures you wanted to paint. That followed through to a nice line of work, but as a style I personally find it pretty boring and staid. Aye, it\'s subtle and skilful and all that, but I find it pretty uninspiring. I think you should go nuts! :D

Steve, ever thought of a posture for one of your figures like this:-
Serenity-poster.jpg
.

Rather dynamic and yet very poised at the same time.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts :)

As for the Serenity poster I kind of see that sort of thing as overposed. I think there\'s a sweet spot somewhere between that and my normal poses though :)

As a regular 54mm buyer (rare finisher, but that\'s just because of time) and I do look at alot of the available miniatures. What is lacking in quite alot of 54mm fair is dynamism of pose, there is a leaning towards standing poses (does that make sense???). Have a look at Raul Latorres miniatures, they are all fantastic sculpts and beautifully proportioned. You couldn\'t put two of them together to make a diorama or battle scene, they\'d look like they were discussing Italy\'s poor performance in the Euros not fighting!

So you don\'t need to ditch your lovely clean lines, just get the pose right. If you hit the \'sweet spot\' a miniature that looks like it IS REALLY fighting (not some overblown kung-foo pose). You\'ll have a winner AND some of my money :D

Some thing along the lines of Libby in Powerarmour + big axe charging.

Thats my thought, I do have them sometimes :D

steve...my 2 cents...
i think that no matter what ya do, 54mm is gonna be a niche market...
a gamer can slip one of your 28mm minis in his army quite easily...what can he do with a big ass mini??? gamers are the backbone of the industry in my opinion...
just look at the ratio of pics posted here...
maybe one 54mm mini a week versus hundreds of 28mm minis...

i like your 54mm stuff, especially the bride, but my favorite is your arbite for inquisitor...he\'s got a bit of an action pose goin\' on...inquisitor jenna is a close second...these minis have more fine detail than the minis ya sculpt for yourself...

it\'s a tough call, but i think that you\'re better off sculptin\' the majority of your minis in 28mm, and a 54mm mini for yourelf when the urge strikes...it\'s not gonna be the meat and potatoes of your business, but it\'s fun...

best of luck...

cheers

perhaps but, at the risk of sounding harsh, it doesn\'t matter what to think - it\'s the buying public who you are selling to. just try one that is over posed, add a couple more details (i\'m not as smooth as painter as you so i need them to break up the big areas!!) and see what people think

I have an idea for you!.....
The model I would like to see is the sort of women who hang around Inquisitors. When I read the Eisenhorn & Ravenor books I considered doing a SCRATCH of one of them.
Obviously to avoid copyright problems you would have to call her something different and add your own artistic interpretation.

GOD bless ...............VINCENTI
