As I understand it, Baja California got hit, and it was FELT in San Diego, and also LA.
Epicenter was some 15 miles SSW of Ciudad Guadalope Victoria.
Still, 6.9 is a powerful quake, and it's not impossible that there will be more, and also that there will be up higher.

That's pretty exciting, isn't it? And maybe a bit worrisome, I would think. How much stuff moves in a 7.2?

I was within a quarter mile of a 2.5 quake and the whole house jolted. Kind of like the house getting rear ended, HARD.......that was exciting. 6.9 would scare the livin' daylights out of you. 6.9 can RUIN your house. There's not many brick buildings here due to how easily they topple. A brick house would be creamed in a 6.9. Hard to explain how it is when the whole world around is in motion. Very powerless feeling. When I was a child we had a powerful quake hit in our area. We lived on a sloping hill that went out for about 5 miles. My mom said she could see an after shock coming towards the house.....actually could SEE, like waves in the sea, the shock wave of the quake coming towards our house. I remember seeing a 8 story tall shopping mall sign going 'twaaannngg' back and fourth. I was in a restaurant holding a plate of meatballs when the Loma Prieta quake hit. I don't know the magnitude where I was at but 3-4 would not be out of the question. It was, while shaking, it was a gentle rolling, almost like being in a small row boat in choppy water. Everyone in the restaurant cheered. The shaking kept going and got stronger. The place quickly got silent and the whole place bolted for the door

I felt it up here in the Antelope Valley (Palmdale). For us it felt like I was on a boat that was gently rolling in the waves. But I'm hundreds of mile for the epicenter.

Quake

Ahh, I miss living in So. Cal! hehe! As long as no one gets hurt/property damage, they're rather fun!

Cake or Death?
I just heard that the high-school youth group from our old L.A.-area church (Rose Drive Friends in Yorba Linda) was on a missions trip in Mexicali the day this happened; they had just arrived, in fact, a few hours prior. None of them got hurt (thank goodness), so the timing is actually pretty good. Azusa Pacfic University organizes the missions week for something like 1000 kids, so they are not only capable and willing to help with recovery, and have the C&C structure to get a lot of people moving together in the same direction, but already have the time off, and already have connections with the local community that will help them target their work to be most effective. Our friends with kids down there were a little freaked out at first, but they calmed down when they realized how serendipitous the timing was for both the Mexicali residents and for the American kids learning to be servants.

If I find out any more about their efforts, I'll make a note on this thread.
