Bitter end to Stuart's 5yr mission

PUBS

Ale lover Stuart Ashby has thumbed his way through the Good Beer Guide - by hitchhiking to all the 700 pubs in it.
He sank at least one pint in every boozer listed.
Mr Ashby, 60, set out in 2005 with a thirst for travel and his trusty copy of the 1990 guide.
His odyssey ended at the Lamb in Yapton, just a few miles from his home in Shoreham, West Sussex.
The retired rail worker, who cannot drive, said: "I managed to keep going. I thought by now I'd be fed up with it or infirm."
Including his Good Beer Guide tour, Mr Ashby has hitchhiked to 16,912 pubs since 1984, covering 25,000 miles, but finds it hard to pick a favourite.
He said: "I have done so many to remember. If I had to choose a favourite beer it has to be London Pride or Deuchers IPA. But I'm not an ale expert - just a willing taster."

Talk about dedication.:beerwave::beerwave::beerwave:

Everyone down at the pub tonight to celebrate a dedicated man. That is, if you're of drinking age. All rounds on Cassar's tab.

I have seen the light!

What a goal! When does the book come out! And the movie! and the line of miniatures! In fact I see a line of true scale inns on the horizon...
Suddenly something to look forward to for when the kids move out.

...just no one tell the wife... OK?

P.S. The title really threw me, thought it was going to be an obituary. As I'm reading I'm thinking - 'this guy died the right way'. Takes a moment or two - then there's no death? Even better.

Don't kid yourself. We'll tell your wife out of jealousy of you getting to enjoy life more than us. ;)

It's good to have a hobby I suppose :cute:

Now what's he going to do... start on the pubs new to the 2010 guide maybe?

P.S. I'm surprised there was no mention about any of the pubs having shut by the time he got there, even on short trips to the UK some years ago my wife and I found B&Bs and inns that had shut.
