A couple questions - one, to Confrontation fans; two, about D&D-usable minis

Two questions:

1) Confrontation fans, where do you get your fix now? What miniature lines best fill the void left by the death of Confrontation? For me nothing really fills the void but I suppose that Enigma is the closest thing. Actually, the Enigma miniatures themselves seem to be slightly higher quality in terms of molding and detail, but they are just quite limited in terms of quantity and diversity. Plus they are all pretty "Grim and Gritty" and thus pretty narrow in focus.

2) What miniature lines have the most D&D-usable figures? Reaper is the obvious answer, and of course Iron Wind is doing the old Ral Partha stuff, but I'm wondering if there are any lines I'm missing or what people use for fantasy tabletop roleplaying (I hate the D&D minis).

I like both Hasslefree & Heresy for their odds & ends. Hasslefree is worth a check for nice character figs, the 3 stage Tiriel (female fighter/paladin/cleric) looks very nice (I need to go shopping)...

Heresy are great for some fiendish undead, such as the Paul Muller Ghouls...

...and you never know, their huge dragon may be available one day ;)

GW of course have odds & ends if they're not too large for you, particularly worth scanning through the Mordheim releases & of course the Lord Of The Rings stuff, particularly if you want mounted & foot versions of the same character. Don't forget Eureka for Winged Fezzed Monkeys (of use in our current India styled game) & Thunderbolt Mountain should be worth a peak too.

All of those regularly hit our D&D table, alongside 30 years worth of minis from 4 collections ranging through Minifigs, Grenadier, Ral Partha, Harlequin, Mithril, et al. Oh, and recently a McFarlane Toys Violator that was a useful size for an Ice Demon :D

Check out the Grenadier Classics from Mega Miniatures. Kind of old-school (and maybe a little under-sized at true 25mm), but these minis were designed when medieval RPG's were the king of the hill, and they reflect that. Which is a good thing, since all the classic character types are well represented. They are new casts from the Grenadier molds, so not blobby toxic lead or beat-up old stock.

Also, very, very economical :)

Werner Klock's line at Freebooter is good for DnD, especially if you're looking for figures to fit a coastal campaign. The man loves his pirates.

As for filling the void for confrontation, I fear that may never be possible, but in terms of things I get the same satisfaction from painting, Infinity is a real joy to play with. The Tales of War line is superb, but limited. Lot of dwarves for some reason.

As for Confrontation Minis, shows where stalls have remainders or Ebay (Excluding sellers from China) which regretably are reptuted to be the main source of recasts.

Thanks all, I'll check some of these out.

Dragonsreach, could you clarify that last sentence? I noticed some figures, including some rare ones like the Molochs and Daik Bakemonos, from China that are without boxes - are these recasts? Has there been any reports on their quality?

I got most of my large Confrontation collection in 2008-09 on Ebay, Bartertown, and Ludik Bazar after they bought the remaining metal stock from Rackham. I probably have about half of what they made, including 95% of the stuff that I wanted - only a handful of figures eluded me, but I can live with that. After seeing the Dragon Titan go for $600+ on Ebay I'm tempted to sell it, but it is really one of the most beautiful sculpts I've ever seen and is hard to let go of. Plus the value can probably only go up, unless it gets recast, which I see as doubtful.

Yes, it's been confirmed that the China is re-casting Rackham stuff. There was a thread about that somewhere ...

People seem to have missed out Fenryll Miniatures for D&D. I had totally forgotten about them until this post. I used to use them a lot in my D&D days (which seems a long time ago now), along with the already mentioned Hasslefree. They do a range of adventurers that are 3 stage character miniatures. Very good showing the progress and development of the character. They are in resin, highly detailed but need a little more clean up. They also come with pre-cast bases, but they are square and not the broccoli type which I found to be ok.

Their website is usually in French, but there is a little flag to click on so you can read it in English also

I think Rackham had the greatest miniature line that have been ever produced in Milky Way... I love their "cozy" miniatures like Ephorath colony, Demon Tower, golborak, militia and tough models are cool 2 :)
It`s a pity it`s no onger exist but don`t forget those sculpters are still alive!
