A dare for the best painters in the world.

I use a normal desk lamp and a long florescent. The florescent gets placed as close to the figure as possible, the the desk lamp is moved to fill in any shadows.

Hmm, Good topic and great images . . .

Well, this is a good topic and I think a very helpful idea.

Here is my contribution to the images. The bottom right hand shot of the face is the largest I currently have.

well, I think I\'ve underestimated everyone, as brushstrokes are not as obvious as I\'d thought they\'d be.

armour

has anyone got any good close up shots of armour more like shoulder pads in particular. but not of the metal variety. perhaps a shade of red or other on metallic colour? id like to see what these wet blending techniques are like up close and personal.

That finger....

Darkblade,
No offense, she\'s really well painted and all, but . . . she looks to me like she just picked her nose and is carefully examining what she found.

I had a few pics on my HD,so i up-load it on my FTP,only 448Ko :duh:
I readed on other forums(warmachine,etc...) that some people think the pics i post are doctored,it makes me smile lol
You can get the pics here:

To Cyril, and any other non english speaker:

Please don\'t let the language barrier stop you. The only way to learn a new language is to use it. And I hope no one on these forums would be so immature as to make fun of someone who doesn\'t have perfect grammar.

barkel

to Cyril: I work with the general \"english speaking\" public on a daily basis and I promise you your english is as good as, if not better, than half the people I see. I have one client that speaks with such a thick accent that he\'s almost impossible to understand. I\'m the only one in the office with the patience to ask him to repeat himself over and over again.:D

pps: Do your best to translate those tutorials. And let us know on the forums when the site is done.

Holy Monkey...

Man. I have no idea what to say.

I thought I learned a lot from this site so far. Now I stand in awe. How do you guys get these so clean and smooth?!?!?!

(also Petethemighty-do you just have better eyes than me or do you use a magnifying glass?)

Cyril, thanks for posting. I really enjoyed seeing your piece close up, especially after reading your piece on painting the plague marine arm

Can you describe your technique for blending to us, as best you can. If all else fails, write it in french and we\'ll use Babelfish.

Is it just 10-20 layers of very thin paint, applied over and over again to gradually build up an area?

I am sure mine are not as smooth, but i was messing with my magnifying visor tonight. I rarely use it except maybe the odd face, but perhaps it is time to drop the macho (I am perfect) attitude and just use the darned thing! My blends are smoother from what I can tell, and getting fine detail is really only limited by the quality of your brushes!!!! I will consider using the visor a lot now I think!

I just want to say thanks to all the people who have posted large shots of their models. I think I can learn a lot more about how people like Cyril paint by looking at these pictures. Its good to also see that it\'s not just me that has problems with dust and fluff on their minis at this level of magnification! ;)

Regards

Kat

Welcome to the increasing reach of years Glyn. Soon you\'ll be needing reading glasses like the rest of us.
