A day off

Hi all well I got a day off work (Hindu holiday here in Indonesia) so I thought I would spend the whole day painting, I brought with me my GW paint case and a LOTR dragon, been painting a bit here and there, but now a whole 18hours of painting, room service just kicked me out so I thought I would put up a post! I started at 8 ish and its now nearly 9
Any C&C welcome, I am not the greatest painter and have limited facilities here
I was highlighting the purple in yellow, but that was mistake #1

Hi,

I really like the scales on the back, nice work there. I'm not sure the wing colour gels with them though.

Cheers

Thanks for that,
Here is the progress so far, actually I did a fair bit that is out of view
Re the colours I was trying to limit my palette to avoid the "riot of colour" look, red scales and purple skin was the plan, the previous scales did not have a wash but better now IMO

so it is now 10:30, total colours used 11, washes 4 (so much for a limited palette!)

Oh and one disaster a large blob of paint leaked off a lid down the back of a pot....fortunately I brought a cutting pad (A3) with me!

Well its 12:45 now so I need a break, (how can you commission painters do it?)
Another pic, I learned from last time....concentrate on the side that will be photographed!

Just gone 3 now, and plenty more done!

I must be doing a better job than I thought I could....or you are all falling around laughing so much you can't post criticism?

Wow Tercha, that's painting at a speed I envy :) The scales/belly in particular have worked out really very nicely indeed. Face could do with some more tidying up but I guess there's a way to go on the purple yet? I'm not convinced by the glossy tongue, is there some shading to go in there? I think I'd rather see the gloss effect used on drool, perhaps a couple of small strands toward the front, hanging down, or a couple stretched between upper & lower jaw toward the back (not too much though, a line painted in around the gumline & a couple of strands). Not in red though, perhaps pick up a hint of the green used for the eye?

Hope you've enjoyed your holiday :good: Cheers, B.

One day... now I have the need to braek my brushes... that speed is... WOW!!! Will never come to this...

Though... a little smoother blendings on the belly would be great.

Hi all

thanks for the comments

Ruin-lam (fiery red tongue) every Dragon needs a name! is indeed taking shape

BPI, using logic on a Mythical creature is probably not the best thing to do, but the glossy or wet mouth interior is because of a dragons breath (almost hot enough to melt the one ring) would mean some form of cooling were needed! hence an abundance of saliva or other goop! also it makes the red appear so much deeper. i may add some subtle drooling too.

The purple is a two edged sword inking seems to almost destroy any shading, so its good for the wings, they are looking very smooth but where I wanted more contrast around the face it almost disappeared. as I mentioned i have limited facilities, all the pictures were taken with natural light from a window and could be a lot better, still a lot to do!

Taggi, point taken re: the blending of the belly still a bit to do down there.

SkelletetS, Drank heaps you still get coke in glass bottles here! and plenty of brush licking, "'ard coat" has a distinct taste!

Cheelfy, shoulders are hurting now, so maybe not so cool...

Mickc22, If i were at home i would never get the time to do this, but in an hotel 14 hours from home, why the hell not! LOL

Great to have a whole day to paint, but now its back to bits here and there! and a base, now that is going to be a challenge in a hotel room!

Thanks to everyone else who looked!
