You painting skills are good, but there are two things that bother me about this mini:

- the overall look is glossy, what type of varnish do you use?
- try to glue at least some static grass or gravel to the base. You\'ll lose a lot of points because of this.

Keep up the good work! And keep your girlfriend entertained :D

I\'ve added a comment to that mini, so feel free to comment some of my recent minis :bouncy:

The person in the store told me that the varnish i bought should not be a glossy one.. i guess i got fooled. It\'s a gamesworkshop varnish. It\'s supposed to be matte i think, but yeah, it\'s too glossy..

I haven\'t tried basing yet, but i\'ll give it a try.. :)

Corvus, your minis are much higher standard than mine are.. nice job on all of them :)

If you don\'t want to spend too much time on the bases I\'d say you glue on some static grass. It\'s a fast method and the results look pretty good.

I also use the GW matte varnish called \"purity seal\". I usually spray on 3 thin layers, applied with about 1 hour of drying time in between, and that works fine...

Corvus, i use that same varnish.. but i have a feeling i put on way too much of it. I usually apply two layers, but maybe i use too much on each layer. I haven\'t quite got the hang of it yet..

It\'s the same as with paint: three or four thin layers are better than one or two thick layers :D

Still glossy...

I had the GW matte spray before, and have since switched to Testors Dullcoate.

Not sure if that is available where you are.

I would suggest really shaking the GW matte spray. And then shake it some more.

I had a similar problem with the GW matte, but it was much better when I shook the heck out of it.

Yep, shaking is also a must...

And I mean shake it a lot: like 1-2 minutes, and also while you are working with the spray can. Hold the can about 20-30 cm away from the mini...

I understand.. shake furiously, then spray a thin coat :)

How long do you spray the figure? I mean.. just a quick 1-second spray? Or do you spray it all over for several minutes? :) I sprayed the figures i\'ve been posting for maybe 20-30 seconds and i realize that\'s way too much, hehe..

Didn\'t really time that :) but I usually line up several minis and make a smooth motion over them while spraying.

I guess the best thing to compare this to is carefully drawing a straight line on a piece of paper, it\'s about the same speed I guess.

Yes how long do you spay? I have been holding off on sealing because I am afraid to ruin (what\'s to ruin some might think :D) my paintjob.

you\'d probably have more chance to ruin your mini when leaving it without varnish, I guess :)

Less is best...

You can always add another coat, but try taking one off!

I use very short bursts of less than a second of polyurethane (gloss)varnish, say one burst from four different directions. I might then when the coat is dry repeat this process to ensure even coverage.

My final dullcoat spray is even lighter. I sort of spray a cloud in the air and wave the figure around in it. That\'s a slight exageration, but not much...:D

Is this the fabled Testors Dullcoat? - if so do you have a UK source?
