A DMV registration related query

I have this situation;

Moved to CA in Jan. Never registered my vehicle, or got new license. Been working since March.

Suppose to register\\get license within 20\\10 days.

Does the DMV check Social Security number for records of working? What about residence? I\'ve only been on a lease since July.

Basically, I want to say \"I just moved to the state\" but I need to know how thorough their check is, other than \"do you have insurance\"

Hows that for General Discussion.

Well, you could always say you had a friend driving you around for the past 8 months, or that you were using public transportation. I doubt they would go to any great effort to confirm your story.

I would register though - if you are pulled over for something else, they will likely fine you for the lack of registration.

Trust me, they have their hands full. Just swallow your pride, use the \"just moved\" or just got my car here approach and you will be fine.

heheh, yes... you guys are right... The \"my friend driving me\" is a great one.

I was pulled over in March... \"while visiting\".

A final thought --- does the DMV look over the car for body damage and make note of it? AHEM

I know they check your emissions in CA (you have to get an emissions inspection I think). I was in the military when I was there and that was about six years ago. To be honest I don\'t remember.
