They were going to make Good Omens with Terry Gilliam as a director I saw it as in \"pre production\" on imdb.com. I don\'t know what happened to it. It was just too good to be true I guess..!

Right, I got that DVD and I spent over two hours watching it last night with my lady. At the end she made me swear we wouldn\'t pick up any free DVD\'s again because they are free for a reason, that reason being that they are normally shite. I liked it in parts, but most of it was tat lol

I could tell from the film that it was a massively condensed affair. I\'d like to read the book now just to know it as it was meant to be known.

Why does Patrick Stewart always shout in the films he\'s in? And why did he have a bald patch and a mullet?

would love to see some pratchett on screen. they did do a cartoon of soul music (the one where death rides a motorbike constructed of bones). bloody good it was too. and on cbbc i think they are doing a version of jonny and the bomb. have read all of them up until going postal which i got for xmas and havent read yet. as soon as i have finished the curious incident of the dog in the night time, i shall start it. top book so far though, if a little weird

I think I would cry if they put Pratchett on screen...cry out of sheer joy that is!

He\'s by far my favorite writer. period.

And yeah, stef mom and I watched Dune a couple weeks back...

i must read the books.

Is it only me who is not a Terry Pratchett fan? Oh, he has moments of sheer inspiration that make me lose my sensibilities... the middens hitting the windmill bit in Monstrous Regiment had me in stitches. But, on the whole, I find the plots lack-lustre and anti-climactic. His situational humour is priceless, but it just isn\'t a good read for me. Good Omens is sitting on the bookshelf, a quarter read.

I\'m sure there\'s also an animated version of the Wyrd Sisters too...

I\'ve never read any of Terry Pratchett\'s writing. I\'m just not very big on humour in fantasy or science fiction, with the exception of Fletcher Pratt and some Phillip Jose Farmer. I have read the Dune series several times, however and really enjoyed it. It makes Asimov\'s Foundation Trilogy seem... trivial.

The Sci-Fi channel aired the Dune mini-series a couple of years ago and I thought it captured the novels much better than David Lynch\'s version. I especially liked the Landsknechte inspired costumes of the Sardaukar. It\'s a story that\'s hard enough to follow without adding extra weirdness to it.

Thing is, the fantasy bit is just a funny vehicle for his parody and social commentary. It ain\'t the most important part of his writing, it\'s just a way of carrying his views of mankind and a way of delivering his observations. I hope that didn\'t sound too pompous :|~

This is one of the few times that I enjoyed the movies more than the books. I prefer the Lynch redaction, but also enjoyed the Sci-fi channel version. I don\'t like F.H.\'s writing style and the underlying social allegory made me ill. The symbolism was too transparent; i.e. CHOAN=OPEC.
