So here is a few sculptures I've been making, have been praticing my sculpture fo about 8 months now and it's a lot of fun! Here are the latest three I've made this summer of a human, a non human and a dinosaur. Please feel free to comment and let me know what you think, what can be done differently an all that :)

They are all made with Chavant NSP medium, a oil-based clay and range from 6 cm to about 10 cm (2,5 - 4 inches) so they are a little bigger than most minis but there small enough to be put here I think.

Please comment :)

Great start mate my favorite i would have to say is the dinosaur, if i were you i would bring the jaw bone on the human in Seems a little wide and make it a tad deeper at the chin other than that brilliant job, you should look up dogfaceboyuk he's more the expert than i am in the bust area (woof woof) but he has some really good tips on skin textures an what not. :) oh welcome to the club lol.

general volumes are pretty good tbh. a few things i would change on the human - the mandible needs to be bulked out a bit more and i think the mandibular angles could be brought forward just a smidge. the deltoids need mass too and the bust is long enough that i reckon you would see that start of the arm pits

Thanks a lot freak and cassar :)
The human head is a tricky thing so everything that you guys point out I can hopefully improve on the next one :)
Btw freak, what is the mandibles? I'm guessing something about the jaw or chin but I'm not sure.

They all look pretty good. For the human are you using reference photos? FOr me I found that the easiest way to get proportions right is to use a photo of a face as a reference (any face really, it helps if it has the same expression you are going for) and then once you have all the basic proportions down then stop using the photo and let your imagination do the rest. But as the others said its pretty good. I, like cassar, also like the dino the best but think you could try adding some scales to it just to push yourself farther and get better. :)

@cass ;P

sorry i figured you'd know anatomical terms as the start for most sculptors is anatomical reference. gets you on the right footing.

For the first 8 month worth of work, it's pretty amazing.
But since you ask it, let me leave here one or two remarks...

1. Your hears, on the human, are to far to the back of the head. Usually, the distance from the tip of the nose to the chin is the same of the tip of the nose to the ear.
2. the shape of the skull is to thin on the top and to long on the back. You have to think of the skull as a ball with the sides cut off.
3. you can finish it off with a sponge and a brush deepen in water to give the flesh feeling...

Nevertheless, great job!! It's still takes me a lot of time to get it right and I do it for a profession, so don't be dishearten :) The problem with human representations is that if something is out of place, everybody sees it. On the other two, I would work a bit more the skin textures and wrinkles to give it a bit more expression...

I'll live you one of the many site with tips. It's a drawing site, but if you can draw it you can shape it. http://www.anatomyplz.com/the-face/head-formation

Another thing: take time to look yourself at the mirror when you are sculpting: you are your best an cheapest model when you have problems with proportions...

Cheers and keep the god work :)

An update :-O

Finally a tiny update. Been doing a lot of finesse work on the raptor and tried my hand at texturing the surface of the creature. I've been using photos from Jurrasic Park as reference most of the time. A lot of it is not complete but underways at least. Enough talk, here be thy pics!

Also got motivation and support from Cassar to do a full body sculpture. So I thought I'd try my hand at a alien creature. I drew a couple of sketches and decided on the wierdo with the red ring around him. But the amature wire looked so cool before I cut the legs I decided to keep it and do something a little different than the sketch.
Still WIP but let me know what you think :)
