A First WIP - Eldar Farseer

So I'm finally able to get underway after circumventing some paint issues. But now I'm good to go. My first WIP is a pretty standard affair, Eldar Farseer. No converting or sculpting. I'm going for a dark overall feel to the miniature. Purple was the color of choice for the main body of fabric, the Farseers cloak. I'm using GW paints for this part of the mini, I undercoated chaos black primer, and used a mix of GW Foundation Hormagaunt Purple and GW Color Liche purple as a pre-basecoat, so my actual basecoat isnt working over the black primer...the opacity of the foundation paint is good for this. My actual basecoat is a 50/50 mix of Liche Purple and Warlock Purple, which is the stage I've just got to. The light is going so fast this time of year in the UK, and to make things worse its overcast to hell, so I'm stopping at the basecoat for now, luckily I have Thursday and Friday off work so I can work on the shadows, which will be a mix of Liche Purple, progressively growing darker by the addition of Scorched Brown. Pics coming up!

*The mini is actually a lot lighter and more homogenic, the photo was taken after just a few layers of the basecoat ;)

Looks nice but shading purple with Scorched Brown might give some weird results. If you want something more red-like, use dark red to shade or blue if you want it to be more blue-like.

Yeah I guess the scorched brown seems a bit weird! My basecoat is actually more close to my shadows than my highlights...so whats built on top will be the highlights. I wanted to go for a richer color to the purple, I mixed the scorched brown and it worked nice...almost had a reddish tint to it in fact, looks good on the mini too...as I say I'll post pics of the ongoing shading and highlights when I have good light for a pic, cheers for the advice cheelfy!

Change of plan...the colors wern't contrasting enough for me, so I decided to re-basecoat in just Warlock Purple, so I re-primed in white to get a nice bright color...learning from mistakes :)

The light is honestly so bad with the overcast weather that this is all I wanted to do today, as its better to tell the shading and highlights when the daylight is adequate...plus the fact I don't get home until around 5pm :( I'll be going through step by step with the basecoat, highlights and shadows so I guess this restart is a blessing really...stay tuned...primer was gw skull white btw, tested on a spare mini, works great.
