Thanks for the advice, I had already looked at the MSDS information and like you said it was for the pre-cure chemicals and nothing was listed mentioning whether or not it was food safe.
When I spoke with the Tech she said that Envirotex lite is ok for casual food contact like coating a wooden cutting board in it. But not for prolonged contact. So I will research products that are out there.

Interesting suggestion Mordo.
If I did a marble effect I would likely ask for votes on color. I prefer purple myself too and have purple marbled dice to use as reference so maybe.
On to the question of food safe wood finishes.
I read an article found here that suggested that all wood finishes are food safe unless otherwise indicated. However, I wanted to find something I would be sure about.
So I kept reading and 2 suggestions came to mind to try--cooking oils and parafin wax. Both are easy enough to come by. So after having experimented I will be coating the inside of the die with the parafin wax. It\'s easy to paint on and while it\'s still a bit warm and workable you can polish it up a bit with a soft rag. The outside I will be using a traditional wood finish.

I\'d go with an oil finish like the butcher\'s block oil.

Fairly cheap as finishes go. Easy to use. Sponge brush and go.
And the thought of trying to polish parafin (hard) wax inside that odd angled thing without breaking it.....

I would leave the inside alone.. paint the exterior and bill it as a D20 sides gamers box..let the buyer determine how to use it.. making it just a cookie jar narrows its use.

Jeff we aren\'t making it \"just\" a cookie jar. But I do want it to be suitable for any type of use including that of food storage or display at a party. The parafin wax actually wouldn\'t be hard to \"polish\" once inside the die. It\'s pretty sturdy. I mean it would fall apart if I were to drop it on my tile floor but otherwise I don\'t think it would break. Moe did a good job of putting it together. It doesn\'t take much muscle either, just a soft cloth to buff the inside. I could do that while sitting on the couch watching a movie or something.
Was the butchers block oil for the interior or exterior of the box?

Dunno if anyone\'s said this already, but you might want to consider using something other than MDF if/when you go into production. It\'s nasty stuff, and I know I wouldn\'t want it near my food.

Well there is that.. a MDF main component is Formaldehyde which is a carcinogen BTW.
