This is something new that I\'ve actually finished, for a change! A nice quick job this, it\'s a gift for a friend and was a lot of fun to paint.

At least this owlbear doesn\'t look like he\'s just leapt out of a Birthday cake...

Edit: Oooh! Votey-linky thing!

He\'s really fearsome looking! I like what you did with the beak and the eyes especially.

i agree, not a fan of the sculpt - the body and texture on it seem a little bleh to me (i f you know what i mean) but you have really brought him to life

Thanks for the comments, guys. :)

He\'s by Ral Partha and I wanted to give my friend something unusual, so I nabbed him when he came up on fleabay. The sculpt isn\'t the best, I know. That\'s why I added more feathers. In addition, the smaller feathers on his back and cheat were solid, proud lumps which looked strange, so I added fur round them to blend them in a bit.

Edit: This is what he looked like before I got busy with the Magic Sculpt:

Wow seeing the before and after shows how much you did to raise the mini. The original looks more like it\'s made of pine-cone fur, great job adding feathers really makes it look like an owl bear. The facial expression brings a grin reminds me of monsters from some of the goofier anime.

Owlbears rock! I really like what you have done with him, although I might have made some of the plumage a bit lighter for added contrast - tans or even a few greys, for example. Great job revising an otherwise \"clunky\" sculpt. I have a vintage owlbear in my collection that has a really static pose - more of a totem pole than an owlbear, really.

It has a beak with teeth. That\'s nuts :D

Good job making a horrible model look tolerable through the paintjob!

I\'m so embarassed with myself that I didn\'t even catch the tooth thing until you mentioned it. Sometimes I wonder if I\'m looking at minis or through them.

Thanks for the comments everyone. It really isn\'t a good sculpt, is it? lol

@Friar: The funnest part was trying to persuade the new feathers to stick the model, not my fingers!

@treide: Thanks. This beastie is from Ral Partha, and is the grand old age of 20. He\'s doin\' well, considering! You\'re right about the feathers, perhaps I should have gone a bit lighter, although irl the contrast is stronger. My camera killed most of the finer variations in shade and tone.
