hi all,

ive just bought a new GW model,
Tiktaq\'to

gw_wh_lizard_tiktactoq.jpg

see his base? Not a master piece huh? I personally hate those plastic stick bases, and I want to do something different. Im also planning on entering him in GD, n the standard base won’t cut it. My idea is to have him swooping over a jungle stream. I had a long description before my post was eaten, so here’s the pics instead

The attachment point is in his mount\'s chest, I was originally going to have him suspended on a branch, but I reckon all that weight on one point wont be a wise decision. Do you think that maybe a rock sticking out of the water that he could be pinned to is a good idea? If you have any other ideas please share them.

My second question is about the water. It’s going to be stained muddy and green, with maybe a few floating leaves in it, and only about a cm deep, so would Gw water effects be suitable for this? I say this medium as I know places where it’s readily available. If it isn’t what mediums would be? If anybody foresees any issues or has anything to this idea fee free to say, as im really hoping g to go the whole way on this, and there is no where else I’d rather ask than here.

I’ve taken up a lot your time all ready, so ill be on my way now, minis to paint and all that!
Thanks, max

EDIT: jut having reread that I’d like to apologise to anyone who read it before this edit, the spelling mistakes and general problems where quite on the epic side. Still, hopefully all tidy now!
:)

If you use stiff enough wire (paperclip maybe) that\'s not necessarily a huge deal. You\'d have to be careful during transport but it could be workable.

It\'s better than a plastic rod!

If you\'re happy with it being opaque then you really don\'t need to use a water effect, just paint it on the base (making sure it\'s very flat) and then gloss it up nicely and it\'ll look like water.

I would consider an epoxy or polyester resin for the water. Even regular epoxy... It has a nice brownish coloring to it - reminiscent of tannic acid stained water.

Some of the stuff in the lakes here would give a cup of tea a run for it\'s money - either in tannins or algae.

Yep, clear resin or regular old epoxy glue work well. You can tint them with inks, even the glue while mixing it. A little goes a long way with the ink, it\'s the translucent kind of ink that I\'ve used for great effect. One little toothpick tip of ink to an inch of resin.

Tons of tutorials on this method on the web, would be redundant to type what\'s been covered with pics and in depth, just do a search for \"making water for dioramas with clear resin\" or something along those lines. I\'ve seen scads of tutorials on the web for making water for your bases. I\'ve done it as well many times. Clear resin all the way or for small amounts, clear epoxy glue is fine.

thanks guys, i reckon im gonan have him pinned to a peice of ruined architechture coming out of the water. when you say clear resin would gw water effects suffice? i noly keep abshing on about this because i know that if its faulty i can quickly take it back and complain and i know where to get it

The stuff GW sells is a one-part product, right? If so, it\'s not a resin. I\'ve used Vallejo\'s similar product and I wouldn\'t recommend it. It shrinks when it sets, so that edges become uneven, there\'s holes forming in the water etc. The end result looks dodgy, at best. The stuff works ok-ish if you only need a thin film of water, but even the slightest volume and you\'ll get problems with shrinking.

A two-part resin is the way to go. Envirotex Lite, for instance.

That\'s the stuff, yes. Comes with mixing instructions and there\'s lots of articles online about using resin to make water bases. Creating a \"mold\" (i.e. putting up barriers to hold the water in place without anything trickling out) is a bit tricky, but you\'d have the same problem if you\'d be using GW\'s Water Effects.

Here\'s a link from Hirst Arts where he\'s doing river sections with an epoxy/resin water.

Yeah water \"effects\" products are more for small amounts like ripples on top of lakes or a bit of texture here and there. Haven\'t used the GW stuff personally, but from looking at it I\'m going to assume it works like other water \"effects\" products. Which is like, takes too long to dry, \"dodgy\" as described, not comparable to other better solutions.

Excellent tutorial by a fellow member on how to work with water-effect resins.

sory for the second post, but i needed some advice. as ive said, im having some trouble with assembly, now im not even sure ive recieved the right model. it ay seem minor, but if you look at the eavy metal pic of the model on the wings it clearer has too \"finger\" claws, mine has 3 on each one. the legs are also in a completely different position. i think what may have have happened is that ive been sent a terradon with enough peices to make it look like tiktaq\'to. do you reckon this is possible or am i just being pedantic? thing is it it doesnt realy assembly and i want to do my vey best on it. i had it mail odered to a differnt adress (ie not the shop) so i payed for postage. if it is wrong, how would i go about notifing gw and sending it back?
thnks in advance, max

Max - phone them up (Direct Sales, Head office - not local store) and they should be able to sort you out if you\'ve got the wrong model.

Speak to AlextheArtist about resin water as he did this recently on his Yarry base.

If you need any help putting anything together - come to Patriot Games on Sunday 19th (the week after easter) and we\'ll see if we can help you out.

Granddad!
if you are really having trouble putting him together, take him into your local GW, they should help you, in fact they should be running stuff over the easter break anyway
