A letter to my British friends

To those of you in Great Britain;

I am writing this as an apology to Prime Minister Gordon Brown, his family, and the citizens of the United Kingdom on behalf myself, a citizen of the United States of America.

Throughout the 20th., and now the 21st. century, our two great nations have been Allies fighting side by side against the tyrants of the world. Our history as allies is a long and distinguished one. There is no excuse to treat such a valiant ally the way that Barack Obama did.

Barack Obama\'s actions and transgressions range from canceling the planned joint news conference with Prime Minister Brown, to removing from the oval office the bust of Winston Churchill which was given to the United States as a gift after the September 11th. attack , to the thoughtless gifts given to Prime Minister Brown and his family from the Obama\'s after the Brown\'s clearly took care in selecting fitting gifts. The insult that was given to your Prime Minister and your country by Barack Obama was appalling, should never have happened, and was a disgrace to the citizens of the United States.

Please convey the following message to Prime Minister Brown, his family, and the citizens of the United Kingdom. Barack Obama does NOT represent all of the citizens of the United States. His actions do not reflect the way that the majority of Americans feel about our English \"cousins\". We think of you as trusted allies, who should be given the respect that you so greatly deserve.

I know you have been slighted. I know you have been insulted. All I can ask is that you accept our apology, and keep in mind that in four years we Americans may come to our senses and elect a true leader who appreciates the relationship we have with our great friends and allies from the United Kingdom.

Respectfully, I remain:
airhead.

Alright....I can say I knew nothing of this until just now...so I\'ve read a few articles to get up to speed.

I\'m not apologizing at all.

If Britian doesn\'t like their freaking gift, have them go right over to Target and exchange it for some Merona slacks.

Besides, and more seriously, you are falling into the \'spin\'. Since when does the British media dictate the \'mood\' of the British people? It is as effective as the American Media at that job.......

I don\'t think changing some time schedules around really constitutes the \'we are snubbing Britian\' and have forgotten anything that our cousins have done for us.

So, the gift was cheap and cheesy? Maybe some particular governmental employees are trying to figure out what to do with the mess the country is in.
But, yeah, lets blast them for inconsiderate gift buying.

If that is what makes the whole of Britian happy, I\'ll buy Gordo a chair made of ceremonial whale bone or some shit and appease the whole nation!!!

And, regarding the Winston Churchill bust....

FROM NEWSWEEK:

Intended as a symbol of transatlantic solidarity, the bust was a loaner from former British prime minister Tony Blair following the September 11 attacks. A bust of Abraham Lincoln—Obama\'s historical hero—now sits in its place. A White House spokesperson says the Churchill bust was removed before Obama\'s inauguration as part of the usual changeover operations, adding that every president puts his own stamp on the Oval Office.

***
If the Oval office was meant to keep every gift given by a foreign country, never to be changed, would there be room for the desk????

I\'ll gladly bust on Obama when he makes mistakes, but to conjur up major \'embarassment\' for crap created by the press is a bit too far for me...

Personally, I wouldn\'t have been offended if Obama had scrambled a couple of fighter jets and blown the unelected one-eyed tw*t out of the sky prior to him landing in the US. :)

When they are throwing parties at the White House with $100 a pound sobe steak, and having Earth, Wind, and Fire perform, yeah, it is cheap.
When the government is the reason this country is in the mess we\'re in and just spent close to a trillion dollars on projects that stimulate almost nothing at all with over 4000 earmarks in the bill, and are looking at spending more money they don\'t have...
When $50 million goes to the preservation of the California Marsh Mouse in a bill meant to stimulate the economy...

Hmmmm....... What DvD\'s did they give \'em? \'Cause my special edition of \"Road House\" went crappy so maybe I should give Brown a call and swap him. Also some movies can be really thoughtful gifts. Maybe he got the Brown\'s a copy of \"the Patriot\", which might enlighten the Brit\'s about why America had to split. They killed Heath Ledger WAY before it was acceptable in that film man! Damn Brit\'s!

Putting your own stamp on the oval office is fine, but in reality it\'s the office of the leader of the free world, and ANY change (He\'s all about change, so he should know!) is going to get scrutinized and held under a microscope.

Obama took the hardest job on the planet on here. He needs to know that as a new president following the demonized reign of Bush that everyone is watching. Get some good people who know about this new era of news reporting and use it to help out. Hire a former editor from Newsweek or whatever and get them to help you turn these BS things the public WILL get ahold of and use them to help.

Maybe sending the bust of Winston Churchill to the office of the mayor of New York? Maybe hire some official Gift Giver who\'s job it is to make sure you always look like the cat\'s ass when making these handshaking tours?

It\'s politics and it\'s the very meaning of rubbing people the right way to make your idea\'s come true. Sure it sucks that part of running your country means that you have to be careful what gift you give, but that\'s politics.

I wouldn\'t worry about it AH.
I like to keep up with the news but this didn\'t make much of a ripple over here.

To be honest, I don\'t think Obama really gives two hoots about what happens outside of America, so all Gordon\'s fawning will probably be in vain.

ok i like barack obama, i beleive he is doing the best with what he has got. i feel pretty much the same way that vike feels on this. get over it....its not that big of a deal.

what people need to get over is the fact that he is NOT GOD OR JESUS OR SATAN OR THE ANTICHRIST. he\'s just a man, the moment people put him above a god then we are in for trouble, which is the way i feel its going.... every one makes mistakes, everything gets blown out of proportion from time to time and the world keeps going. i dont know, i think we should just drop this whole stupid conversation and get on to talking about somehting other than barack obama and what good he is doing or not doing. there are more important things in the world than one man.

THANK\'S FOR POSTING THIS, AIRHEAD.

I too was apalled and second what Airhead says.....I apologise for our leader and distance myself from him and his actions towards you all and your honorable country.

@@@@@First, Obama sent back the bust of Winston Churchill which England loaned to us in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. They offered to let Obama hang on to it but were given a thanks but no thanks reply

@@@@@@@@@@Mrs Brown, who has two boys, brought gifts for Michelle Obama\'s two girls. Mrs Brown got them, \"Top Shop dresses (with matching necklaces) and a selection of books by British authors. Lovely.\" Michelle Obama in return got \"two toy models of Marine One\" for Mrs Brown\'s kids. It looks like Mrs Brown put some real thought into her gift and Michelle Obama forgot about getting a gift and sent a staffer to the White House gift shop.

@@@@@\"And the alarm bells really went off when Brown\'s entourage landed at Andrews Air Force Base,\" Mr. Milbank said. \"Obama, breaking with precedent, wouldn\'t grant the prime minister the customary honor of standing beside him in front of the two nation\'s flags for the TV cameras.\"

@@@@@It got worse. The White House initially cancelled a joint press conference with the prime minister on account of snow. This explanation was unconvincing to Toby Harnden of the London Telegraph, who noted \"there are 132 rooms in the White House at least some of which, presumably, are free of snow.\"

@@@@@When Mr. Obama did hold a truncated press availability from which most of the British press were excluded, he went right to questions, skipping the usual words of welcome for his guest. The hapless Mr. Brown didn\'t even get invited to lunch.

@@@@ Brown bequeathed Obama a pen holder crafted from the wood of a 19th century clipper, and he was rewarded with a DVD box set of classic American films

This is exactly my point.

This arguing can go back and forth, but it\'s ALL FREAKIN SPIN! The only goal the spin has is demonifying the person in office. It happenend to George Bush, and now it\'s happening to Barrack Obama.

A sound bite will be heard, it is usually taken out of context, or without a real appreciation for what it happening, the talking heads get it (on BOTH Sides) and spin it until the truth is a footnote.

Regarding your mouse story:

\"Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, speaking for John Boehner, the guy who gave life to the mouse tale, revealed to the San Jose Mercury News: \"There is no language in the bill that says money will go to this project,\" \"

Made up crap. Sold to us to look real. We suck it up as long as it backs our own opinions.

I\'m tired of it. It\'s all bullshit.

Full article.

Seriously chaps... I really wouldn\'t worry about it. Brown is an utter lackwit and I\'m embarrassed by the fact that he\'s representing the UK in any shape or form.

The pen holder was crafted from wood of the sister ship that Obama\'s desk is crafted from.

And I understand that US DVD\'s won\'t play over there? Format issues? Similar to the old Beta VHS thing?

It\'s the US media that\'s blown this up Uber. As I said, it didn\'t create too many waves over here.

ps - His gift did suck though lol

lol What a peculiarly British excuse! Must have been the wrong kind. I guess they were luck there were no leaves too!

I dunno, Brown gets snubbed by everyone, else (including the country he\'s supposed to be leading), God knows why Obama snubbing him is news-worthy. The sooner Britain gets a general election, the better.

It\'s probably that region thing. The US is region 1, the UK is region 2. Either they assumed that Brown has a region-freeDVD player, or they don\'t have a clue about this sort of thing.

That\'s a cack attempt at making a mountain out of a molehill as well. Most dvd players are region free over here or can be hacked with the remote. Even with his job of (almost) running the country, I\'m sure even Gord has a multi-region dvd player.

ps - still a cack present lol

OK, Vike what about the
-DIGITAL-TO-ANALOG CONVERTER BOX PROGRAM - $650,000,000
That belong in a stimulus bill?

-VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN PREVENTION AND PROSECUTION PROGRAMS - $225,000,000 - Noble, but WTF does it have to do with stimulating the economy?

Here:
Stimulus Bill
Go ahead and read how this government is spending your hard earned money, and how much is not going to economic stimulus.

If you actually read it, you\'re doing better than over 90% of the congressmen who signed it.
