A little dilemma, building a player base and so on

Okay, I don't think that anyone can really settle this for me, but I'd like to air my problem and hear people's thoughts.

I want to get some more wargaming in. There aren't that many wargamers in my area, and most of them play WHFB or 40K, and there are a few Warmachine/Hordes players. A few people play some other things, I know there is at least one Malifaux player. I've been running some demos for Wrath of Kings and Dark Age, and hooked a friend of mine on Dark Age. Other than this, I've got Malifaux and some narrow games I got off Kickstarter (like Carnevale, check it out, it is cool). But I want a little more.

At the moment, I mostly get to play WoK or DA with friends, at home, and they borrow armies from me. This is okay, but we can only do it so often and it doesn't get me out of the house. This gives me two choices:

1) Build my own player base for WoK, DA and/or Malifaux. This will probably require regular demoing and a lot of effort, and I'll be the weird guy who only plays his 'own' games, but it will give the benefit of letting me play the games I already own and love. It will also give diversity to the area, something I find somewhat lacking.

2) Start to play one of the games that already have a base. GW games hold no interest to me, so then Warmachine is my choice. The upside is that I can simply join an already active group, and maybe make new friends I can lure into 'my' games. The downside is that this means buying, learning and painting yet another game, and this will certainly take away the time I can spend on 'my' games.

Any thoughs? Did anyone go through something similar?

i'd say #1 would be worth the effort, it would be far more enjoyable if you get to play the games you like more and possibly these people may introduce you to more games you might like, while #2 seems like it would be easier in terms of finding people to play with, you could find yourself wishing you were playing something else instead, on the flip side you might find you like warmachine just as much, maybe you could go along to one of the groups and see if they'll let you watch a game or 2 and get to know some people, theres no point investing into it if you don't get along with anyone in the group :p

Sound logic, Sicks. I might even be able to loan some models and try out the game. However, not buying a load of models right off the bat is completely against my nature! Still, seems like the better plan. At my current rate everything I got stored will be painted by 2029. :p

I've got a similar situation here, there's a gaming group here that meets just across the road from me, but it is advertised as a warhammer club, no idea if they play anything else but I've never bothered checking it out because I don't have much interest in painting a huge army, I struggle to get a unit of 10 done before boredom sets in, I can see the zombies from zombicide giving me that problem, I'll have to bribe myself with 5-10 zombies per survivor painted hehehe

Warhammer is the big deal in the club here, and now they are raving about Age of Sigmar (some hate it, some love it). Warhammer just has no interest to me, I can't really say why. Maybe because I like to stray from the mainstream.

That said, you'll never have problems finding people to play Zombicide. I have the opposite problem, I invite people to my house to play other games and once they are there, they'll rather play Zombicide. :)

But painting all those zombies are a chore. I'm going to clear my plate now and see if my newly purchased airbrush can speed things up a bit.

Yeah warhammer is pretty common here too, there's a department store that stocks it but its mainly 40k, I always preferred the specialist games because there weren't so many models per team or gang or whatever, and the games have just been an excuse to collect models for me, the next closest gaming shop is a GW too so there's not much variety as far as I can tell which is sad because there are many companies now who IMO do better models than GW

It would be cool to find people to play zombicide with :) with black plague there's at least some variety in the models, think I counted 7 of each model except the abomination so I think I'll do a row of each zombie for every 2 or 3 survivors, should help break it up a bit, but some spray primer will be essential

Where do you get you WoK stuff from? The game has caught my eye, but I seem to not be able to find a european distributor.
