A Looted Baneblade / Hellhammer / Skullhamma W.I.P.

I felt like detailing the deathroller a bit, so I spent some time cutting and drilling and gluing all the tedious, tiny little pieces. It\'s not hard work, just time-consuming, but I can do it while I watch TV at least.

I have the wheels I need for the tracks all ready and done, but I\'m having a hard time of sorting out the order I need to work on things in. Part of me wants to put the tracks on so I have a fixed height for the model, but the other part wants the open space in the track guards so I can do things like wire lighting through easily or add ramps. Not to mention I\'ve no idea yet how I\'m going to be putting the track wheels and treads together! Really not sure what to attack next. I might make the barrel for the main gun when I next have free time while I consider it all.

That roller looks freaking wicked, love the flat dude stuck on there.

As a suggestion, and going for the \"the more stuff on it, the orkier (real word?) it is\", could you build a tower up over the engine/back of the turret for the rocket launcher, even have it set to a direct fire kind of thing, lose the ramp as it were.

On another note, I found pre heresy legion rules for using baneblades with a space marine force, as long as its one of the original legions, 600 points, but the deathwing just got a little bigger

I\'m still not sure how the best way to assemble this is, given all the changes I have planned - it seems like one modification would get in the way of me adding another, leaving me scratching my head while the model doesn\'t get done. I\'m trying to fight off the complications in the project by pinning the track links together - I ran some wire through the treads so they\'re connected, but not glued, and pinned a couple of my cast wheels onto the thing just to figure out their spacing and placement. I\'m not going to lie to you, it looks pretty stupid right now, but I\'m going to say that it\'s simply because all of the things that will be covered with armor plating are just open space right now.

I think the body is actually sitting a tiny bit higher than I\'ll want it finalized at right now - I\'ll lower it a couple mm or so. I\'m trying to get the front wheel to stick out a decent amount so it will line up with the central hub on the deathroller - that way, the roller is powered by the track wheel mechanism to spin. It\'s all still very rough right now, I just thought I\'d get some feedback on general form. The front section of the track guard will be covered up similar to Orchead\'s baneblade so the tracks don\'t end up looking quite so silly.

Bit of an addendum - this is about as low as I can easily take the chassis without having problems with the deathroller\'s size and having to hack up the entire front end.

bane16.jpg

I think I was trying to overcompensate a bit - Orchead\'s is built up significantly at the top which is what makes it so large, but since mine hasn\'t been topped yet I still had the urge to get the same kind of height out of it. :p

make a cast of some sort for the tracks. because the are only realy one sided you don\'t need the spikey bit on the inside. then make a plaster of paris mold and then poor the resin in and etvoila thingymabob

Looking good James!

Just remind me never to be round you when your drive any type of motorized vehicle! You seem to like smooched grots a little too much :D

I want to say this because I think it sorely needs saying: God bless legos. There is nothing better when you need easy internal supports on a miniature and you don\'t care what it looks like. Allow me to demonstrate:

bane17.jpg

Looks simple enough, but underneath, holding it together....

bane18.jpg

The coke can just happened to be the perfect fit to hold up the main section until the other tracks are done - I\'m waiting on the last of the wheels I need to finish setting.

Once the other tracks are done, I\'ll set it up the same way. As-is, the lego are fairly discrete, even from a side view:

bane19.jpg

The wheels might look a little open and exposed, but I have plans for that. I did this sketch earlier today to flesh the idea out a bit:

banebonus4.jpg

I\'ll hang armor plating and chain mesh off the side - I have a number of spare Rhino parts around that are perfect for it.

What do you guys think? Looking good?

Got the other half of the track section built, so now it has a final, fixed height! I think I will probably attach them in place so I can properly fix the deathroller on as well.

bane21.jpg

It\'s easy to forget how big these things are without an ork for scale.

Up next... No idea! I\'ll probably work on fixing the roller into place on the body and then maybe headlight wiring.

I took yesterday off to get some gaming in, but I\'m back and working on this for now.

You may remember in my previous sketches I drew boarding ramps on the side of the Baneblade. Before I can fix the tracks into place, I\'m going to need to add those, as they require that I cut a number of square hatches into the side of the tank and build doors behind it. These doors will be covered by the ramps when they\'re up. :)

I just started roughing out the general design and I thought I might ask you guys about placement. It\'s hard to get them just the right height!

bane22.jpg

bane23.jpg

I think I\'m going to put a pair of these on either side, in addition to the rear ramp in the back - Skullhammas hold a ton of boyz, so I may as well make it possible for them to get on and off in a hurry.

I\'ll rivet the thing up and add some orky decoration to it shortly.

I tried lengthening the ramp to make it look a bit more comfortable. This is the lowest I can attach it to the tank right now - does the angle look okay? I might cut the door a bit taller, as well, since the longer ramp can cover it when it\'s up.

bane24.jpg

I can\'t photograph it in the up position right now - before that, I have to dremel off the hinges and stuff that gets in the way, but I\'d like to hear some feedback before I get to doing that on how the general ramp design looks, aside from the fact that realistically it would block the tracks from working properly. :p

Have you considered moving the doorway back to around the last \"sponson mounting position\" then expanding out the bit of the upper hull that comes out over the track to form the hallway into the troop bay?

like so

The black things on the side are grapple guns/harpoons, that I figger to be used to pull an enemy vehicle next to it so the boyz can get up close and personal like. or for fun you could a giant orkie magnet or something like that.

You just sold me on that idea, man.

Thank you. I really needed that, I was starting to work myself into a rut with these ramps and I was afraid the project would die out.

As the saying goes.
\"Those who can, do. Those who can\'t, teach.\"
Your work is a inspiration to all of us that wish to work in plast a card, so anything I can do to help keep the ball rolling, I count it as a \"community service\". (Thousands of ideas maybe one or two will stick lol .
I would almost think that the door on the front made be a good idea to keep in as a \"sneakin door\" (grot size), something for the driver to get in and out of, the grots to be chucked out of at the driver/engine of the enemy vehicle (I\'m thinking of a poor Ork\'s shock attack gun :D giant rubber bands?!?).

Just keep up the good work, and let the rest of us drool over the results.

Looking sweet, as always.

A little off the topic here but i reckon you could make a cool 40k tank using a remote control tank. I mean your into wiring these things up. I think it would be cool to have something like that. Just an idea
