A painful scorpion

Alright, I\'m getting impatient, so I have to shamelessly prod for comments and votes for http://www.coolminiornot.com/77262

With work and studies keeping me busy, this was a practise piece to get me used to holding a brush once again. I think I got the most practise with the brakefluid though.

Unfortunately, the boney streaking on the claws and spikes does not really show up in the image.

have you tried EZ off oven cleaner instead of brake fluid? Much easier on you and doesn\'t leave oily films on the mini.

I think the red color is very nice, but the whites on the spikes and claws is a bit too bright (IMHO)...

yes, I\'ve learned that shameless prodding for comments is fun and educational!

But the red does look good, however it could use just one more slight highlight to really bring it to life, especially since scorpions tend to have a somewhat reflective carapace. I agree with supervike that the whites look a little too bright, a thin brown wash or too could dirty them up a bit and then pick out the highlights again in white. Also the base is a tad boring, but it may be hard to do too much more with it since the model covers so much of it.

Nice job though, keep it up!

I agree with what\'s already been said. Very nice work. I think you\'ll find that the camera tends to wash out highlighting such as the boney streaking you talked about, especially it seems, on reds. You kind of have to push it farther than you think is reasonable in order for it to show up well in pictures.

I like it, quite a bit. The colors are vibrant and the blue eyes make a great contrast and eye catcher (not trying to make a pun .. bah).

Like the other said, the white is a bit .. BAM in your face, but personally, it works for me. Look forward to seeing more of your work.

Seriously, I think the white works really well. Really enhances the spines/spikes and claws as belonging to a very unnatural beast of a creature.

I think the red could stand a step up in a few places... perhaps with a light brown worked in to avoid pinkishness. Otherwise, that\'s very nice. Definitely cool scorpion.

No, no free-hand. Have you ever seen a scorpion with a tattoo? Hmmm, perhaps a tattoo of \"Susie\" across his crusty butt might work... or maybe \"OZZY\" across his knuckles. Hey, now that\'s an idea.

Yes, the white is very bright in the pic. I\'m going to blame the pic for that because it really does hide the streaking on the spiky bonies. I have been of a mind to enhance that though.

I agree that the red should be highlighted some more, the strongest highlight is GW\'s Golden Yellow. I think, subconsciously, I was trying to stay away from this sort of thing: http://www.coolminiornot.com/articles/art3cdaf48b10f0d.jpg To me, the yellow highlight is not just a highlight anymore, it has become another colour on the armour.

The base... boring? Oh yeah, it is. But just like it was said, it\'s hard to do something with a base when the model covers so much of it. It\'s for a Tomb King army, so a couple of skulls at least, could go on the base.

Nope, never tried any over cleaner. But then, I\'ve never had the brakefluid leave a residue on the minis either.
