A question or two

First, I remeber someone posting a link to a tutorial on making chain, but I forgot to bookmark it.

Second, does anyone know of anyone who has done a Wood Elf army in a \'dark\' flavor? I\'m not talking about the \'winter\' themed army, although that is definately along similar lines. I meant painting it to look more like a dark Elves army. I was thinking of doing the army I bought some time ago more in accordance with the fluff of Athel Loren. -

\"Dark forms move through the twisting branches and dense undergrowth; tiny darting shapes flit between the trees on the very edge of vision.\"

There is a a part of the forest that even the Elves fear in the SE corner, known as the Wildwood. I was thinking of basing my army as being from there, being wilder and more chaotic then then their more \'normal\' cousins. Has this ever been done as far as any of you know?

Not as far as I can remember seeing but it should be relativley simple to theme like this.
I\'m thinking Black primer, Burnt Cadmium Brown Basecoat and lots of deep shadows.
Personally I\'d be tempted to start with the Waywatchers as they are supposed to blend in to the background and be almost invisible.

Haven\'t seen this one done.

Darnit, if no one will take up my idea of desert elves I may have to do a wood elf army myself.

Desert Elves? In tune with the spirits of...sand and rocks? Able to call up desert wildlife like...lizards and cacti.

Great idea. Why not make a sinister Woodelf army, not like they can\'t be evil... and they wouldn\'t resemble Dark Elves if they were...

I say go for it :D Make them sinister!

Heres a tute I got from somewhere.

My appologies to the originator as I cant remeber who I got it from

Tools Needed:

Putty, Pointed Tweezers, Dulled X-acto Blade, Dulled Bent Pin

pic1.jpg

1. Roll out a thin snake of putty and apply to your figure. For the sake of the tutorial I\'ll leave my snake on a piece of plasti-card.

pic2.jpg

2. Pinch snake with tweezers at equal intervals. Keep the tweezers at a 90 degree angle to the snake of putty (straight up and down or *perpendicular*)

pic3.jpg

3. Press the dulled X-acto blade down flat a quarter of the way in on each side of the snake. This flattens the tops of the horizontal chan links and defines the vertical chain links at the same time. The picture at the bottom shows what it should look like when you\'re finished.

pic4.jpg

4. Press holes in the center of each horizontal link.

pic5.jpg

5. Here\'s the finished chain. After pressing the holes in the center of each link, I squared off the horizontal links by pressing the X-acto up against each side very gently. Five simple steps and you\'ve got very realistic chain that\'s castable to boot!

And heres how mine turned out

Sorry if this is too late. Hope it helps.

Around here that would be Hyeanas, foxes, Cobras, sand vipers and killer freaking scorpions.

Thank you Ogrebane, thats what i was looking for. :D

I\'ve been doing a little research and found that jeff Wilson has done some stuff in this vein. The one below is conversion of Dark Elf dark riders into glade riders -

And this is the one that inspired me to do a Daemonette/Dryad conversion -

usa_atl_2004_fantasy_regiment_gold_jeff_wilson.gif

So I should of just looked at the rest of Jeff\'s stuff first. He seems to want to capture the dark and secretive nature of the Wood Elves, as originally portrayed in The Hobbit. I think Tolkien\'s original version of the Mirkwood group was much scarrier then the later version as represented by Legolas. I\'m thinking a lot of Dark Elf conversions, With Be\'lakor body for Orion w/wolves and maybe some Kroot heads on the Tree-kin.

Any input?

@Steelcult: Don\'t forget about those nasty Camel Spiders!

@Vincegamer: Nice sig, I forgot I said that. That makes you the third person to quote me in their sig; I feel like a legend in my own mind. :plol

Sounds like a great idea Mark, and should be interesting to realise it. For the colour scheme maybe add a few dark purples to help them blend into the inky night  Jeff Wilson\'s stuff looks awesome too! Best of luck :D

PS Any news on Sheikh Yadosh yet? :innocent:
