dark skin

im not racist.....well somewhat but not agianst blacks.....actually im racist agianst my own race.....but anyway\'s its not a pationate racism just a teenager one. i have some vietnam H/O scale figs and some of them are obvously meant to be dark skined. i have a fig posted who i painted dark skined and although i did it horribly i think it would work on this fig. ALSO who says that all the space marines with helmets on arent dark skinned mexican asian or eskimo????

why most blacks don\'t do mini\'s

It is not a case of disposable income. I have yet to meet a black person who goes without life\'s little luxuries, more its because D&D evolved from medieval wargaming which has no blacks and is based on Tolkien novels and the legends of Camelot etc. which contain no black characters. The miniatures evolved from these areas. African face sculptures would be cool but wouldn\'t sell in large numbers. You can paint any skin tone you want. Who says black skinned people even exist in a fantasy world, it\'s not earth. How come Lando is the only black guy in a galaxy far far away. The weird aliens in the cantina had better representation. Mace Windu doesn\'t count cause his movies suck compared to the original trilogy.

Well, GW makes a color called Dark Flesh, wich is a reddish brown that can be worked properly mixing it with some of the more regular skin tones for highlights.

The whole raciest lot ...

dudes, come on now...they think \"Darkies\" are an inferior race, lets be honest engines here.

GW hates black folk...look at a Games Day,there are mabey 40 non whites period, out of selveral hundred folks.

GW has a dark flesh sure, but only for doing monsters and dwarfs...lol!

:flame::rolleyes:

I love me some black folks, been around them half my life, and guess what they are humans like us white skins...

I think that they are just not into what we nerds do,I have a freind,a Brother from another mother type best freind, who is very black, but he likes Gothic & Heavy metal music, and has been into gameing and minis for ever, and his black freinds don`t get it...

lol,so he hangs with them for some scocial shit, but with us white folks for games shit...we have been freinds for 6 years, and \"We\" don`t get it,lol...when he and i go to black bars they like me,but they still don`t like our music...lol.

I think it is a cultural thing, and has jack shit to do with actuale skin color.

Anyhow...be happy be humans.

Lets paint up a gangel of black minis today!

...and send them to GW!

:]

Peace!

I think most people simply do not understand the fact that it takes more than skintone to make a miniature \"ethnical\"... I bet that the average player would say, \"OK, you want black Space Marines, so paint one that way and stop complaining\". And why should a company have its sculptors brainstorming on realistic facial features when most players would not even understand the effort in the first place?

Painters, on the other hand, like ethnical diversity... I know that the exotical figures (Midori, Kaballah and such) disappear from the Reaper section of the local shop very quickly.

That is why I think that game-oriented companies will keep making what they\'re good at doing, while the ones who provide figures for collectors or RPGers will gladly do some ethnical stuff (take Reaper, they know people use their minis for D&D and such, and every GM knows that sooner or later, one of the gamers will want to be a ninja or a sexy belly dancer...)

If memory serves GW originally had the Dark Angels recruiting from a feral world populated by Native Americans (can we say Indians) and the White Scars were Asian Indians.

Sadly as with a lot of GWs older history it is subject to change.

Yeah, but then agin I belive in the original background, Angron was raised by a cannabalistic tribe of \"savages\"... this was probably changed due to offending people... Namely Dr. Hannibal. :p

Sorry, but being a white male born in Africa, it makes me mad to think of the term African-American as being correct about anyone not from Africa. And whenever I do humans, I choose randomly between elf, dwarf, bronzed, and dark flesh. In fact I recently posted a guy with dark flesh. The amount of flesh showing was about the size of a paperclip, but that isn\'t the point. I do agree, most people reach for the elf flesh (OR similar color) when going to do humans.

for space marines dark angels are more apt to have color than the other main chpaters due to thier asteroid fortress (2nd edition) in which they cruise around recruiting from just about any planet with able men. next would be the ultramarines who live on a very prosperous and heavily travelled planet.

the blood angels and space wolves are less likely to have different folks of many strokes because of thier genetic disposition and thier attitude towards outsiders.

imperial guard are very varried and are completely reflective of thier home worlds which are just about everywhere. as for whitescars etc, i have no clue, i didnt buy any 3rd edition books but i got every 2nd edition one.

rough riders appear to be mongel or can be passed off as mexican or indian also.

one thing i liked about jen haleys sword winner this year is her piece was a very well done, darker skinned, either black or mix guy and was just done very well since its a pain to get those tones instead of just slappiong brown on a guys face. (shudders) looks very bad unless your very good. the face was also indicative of a non white guy too which just worked perfectly.

however there is a line to be crossed (star trek voyager) where you try and cram everything and everyone of diversity onto a single bridge. indian, irish female, black romulan, sometimes the lenghts hollywood goes to one up itself almost makes it seem like thier out to prove something.

No, no no.. what I\'ve been sayng is theres no actual MINIs based on daker skin people. Paint whatever you like, but it\'s going to look weird. Here\'s why: scientists have divded the human race into three groups based on their bone structure: caucoid (caucasians) mongoloid (asians, native americans) and africoid (african americans and austrailian aboriginies). Now, if you paint a space marine with darker skin, it will look like they have a really bad burn (which might be the case with some Salamanders). You would ahve to convert or have the sculpt already look like a different race, and the majority of minis out there are caucoid.

I\'m going to be trying to sculpt minis from scratch and hopefully I can add a few different races to the lines we have, because face it: Thugs is just a racist line..
