A revelation

Well well well I never did!

I tried the windsor newton brushes after reading an interview with Darren Latham in which he said the eavy metal team use them (albeit the gw branded versions of the same thing) and it was great! I got a 3/0 brush for fine detail work and I was blown away by how smoothly and consistently it delivers paint. I shall be saving up and investing. I seriously believe that this change alone would boost my ratings on future submissions. Fabulous. Excellent. By them. Today.

I\'m pretty hard on my brushes...

and both the Windsor and the Raphael ones have held up well to my abuse!

have you tried the scharff fine liner series 3000? I was googling this stuff and it appears that the body of the sable is less full than the others so it is easier to get a line of consistent width. given that we\'re working right at the very lowest level (3/0-0) maybe that would be a good investment... don\'t see a website that sells them in this country though...

Er, no.

If it were 1990 I\'d agree, but not any longer. Series 7 brushes are not the best out there, they\'re not as consistent as they should be but they\'re still among the most expensive brushes on the market. Something wrong there.

Man, I love my series 7! I can\'t imagine what could be better. What do you use personally?

I will look up the other ones as well.

I have been looking around for some decent brushes, I will try the windsor ones. I wonder if my local shop will carry them

Thank you for the insight and advice

please bear in mind that I\'ve never used anything other than synthetic brushes similar to the citadel ones (sometimes actually the citadel ones), so that is what I\'m comparing the Windsor Newton Series 7 to...

I recently upgraded to some windsor and newton series 7 too! I love them, the paint flows off the brush and its a lot more easy to manipulate. They are a huge improvement over relatively expensive citadel or synthetic brushes I used to use.

The thing is when you get a good W&N they are amazing and my favourite brush but I have had a few that has been not so good in quality, going fishtail etc. still haven\'t tried the Raphaels though but they are my next investment.

Been looking to get some W&N Series 7s, but haven\'t had luck yet. I\'m going to have to find the local art college store or something more downtown.

I got some S7 for my birthday last April but I haven\'t tried them yet as I haven\'t found a mini \"worthy\" enough to use them on.

I recently changed from citadel to Princeton Kolinsky Sable brushes and I love\'em. Are they as good as Windsor Newton ones? If not, how good are they?

Not at all. They have a myriad of uses, drybrushing/washes on bases & tanks, applying paint remover to old minis, etc.

However, they are damn expensive
