A Sculpting Question

I have a few things I want to try on a conversion however before wasting the little spare time I have I have a question or two :D

One of the conversions I am planning will involve adding a cloak and a high collar to a figure, I have managed spikes and horns before with green stuff but for the collar as it will be fairly high (bit like that of a commissar) would I be better off using something other than greenstuff?

Likewise the cloak is not a full cloak but more a sort of tail starting from the waist of the figure and billowing out.

I know how to roll GS so I am not to concerned on that side of it.

If it is going to be sticking out from the mini you may be better off using a mix of greenstuff and milliputt as this will add additional strength and give it the elasticity it needs to sculpt the cloak. I would use a 50/50 mix and then add more greenstuff if it\'s needed. Greenstuff on it\'s own might be alright, it depends how well you sculpt it on really.

Also, with a GS/milliput mix, you\'ll be able to sand the sculpted parts when they have dried and, thus, make it smoother and edges and such crisper.

Depending on the space you\'ll have, I\'d first add an armature (sheet of tin or a first rough layer of GS/miliput/...). If it\'s in contact with the head or the shoulders, then the armature might not be necessary depending on how familliar you are with putty. You might also want to work in two seperate time spans : when the putty is fresh to give it the general shape and when it\'s half cured to work in the final shapes.

Cheers guys I shall give the mix a try, the collar will be in contact with the shoulders and back of the head but from the picture I am working from the cloak appears to come from the waist belt at thw rear not the shoulders.

Yes but I am thinking of putting the finished product into the GD as my 40K single figure entry so I don\'t really want to give to much away :)
