Since photography can have an impact on voting, I'd be interested to see a couple of these reposted with pics taken on a lighter, neutral background and no PS issues. (The first one and pig guy in particular.) Though granted CMON voting seems to be taking an ever harsher turn. It's about time that I posted up the few things I've done in the past year+, and I'm dreading it a little!
The painting on the first guy is super, I'd like to see him with a well-lit pic and a better background for sure! The details are what do it for me - all the areas of weathering (back pipes, chest star, general rust) and the gore on the bat and base. Good snarly face, too. Though I agree with maybe popping the highlights on his face. It's an important focal point of the mini and that would help it stand out from everything else that's going on.
I don’t especially care for the sculpt of the second, so it’s harder for me to look at it impartially. I think it’s a decent job, but needs brighter highlights and more contrast overall to lift it up a little.
I like the atmosphere on the vampire & vic a lot, and the cloak looks super. If you were going for a moonlight effect on the skin and didn’t want to change it, I think what you need is more contrast in the lights and darks. The nipples and lips don’t need to be a dramatically different colour, but darker, and the hair could go a little darker or lighter to stand out more. (And/or sharper reflection highlights on some of the hair locks catching the light.) If you do go back and touch this one up at all, might be worth giving it a bit more of a base, too. The darker background works pretty well on this one as it fits the atmosphere.
More great painting on pig guy, much as it disturbs me! The dead pig effect on the skin of the head is really well done. I knew straight away what it was on seeing the front view, even before I saw the back view with the ragged edge. Again I feel like the picture is dark (I mean lack of lighting in the original pic) and the paint job would present better on a neutral bg. I can’t quite see all the blood effects on the blade, which I’m better are pretty cool. The disgusting messy apron certainly is! Brighter highlights in small areas on the muscles would help give him that glistening with sweat look.
Old guy of the corn – the paint looks a little more rushed on these than some of the others. The corn is super, I’d enjoy a tutorial on how you did that some time. :->
You captured the under the skin vein look on slither lady really well!
I don’t think I have much to add on the last mini other than I love the caked up look of the rust on the base.
