Fear-mongering. It\'s the way of the government, these days. It\'s the obvious step up from simple sensationalism, which was the wave of the late 80\'s and early 90\'s. People are no longer as impressed by the news stories of death and murders and sex scandals, so to get a reaction, the media (and thus, all the other sheep) leap onto \'the terrorist threat\' as a means of getting a reaction.
Which is, of course, the object of terrorism. To cause paranoia and make the authorities stupid about what they react to.
Mission accomplished, it seems.
And as a reply: If Matthew Broderick could get out of an electronically locked room with a pair of scissors and a tape recorder, then it should be easy to take over a plane with a pair of tweezers, a ball of yarn, and a pair of knitting needles. Oh, wait. They wouldn\'t let knitting needles onto a plane. They have pointy ends. Someone might stab a stewardess (excuse me, Flight Attendant) for getting their drink order wrong.
And people wonder why the population is getting more and more cynical.
