about making your own..... re: Wargaming

Hey guys- I was just curious what others would think of playing against someone who had made his own army- sculpted his own figures out of greenstuff, made his own vehicles out of plastic-card.
Basically would you allow it?

Cant see why not - but then again, I\'m not a fan of rules systems that require that you use a specific manufacturers minis.

As long as the figures are somewhat recognizable and the vehicles are fairly well done, who cares. I might object to little blobs of clay and some rectangular solids being declared an army and it\'s vehicles, but then again, if I wanted a game bad enough, I might not lol

lol no I agree-these are not the highest quality yet (hey I\'m still learning) but neither are they blobs and blocks lol. Its just interesting to note that here and on the Wargames Directory Forum most everyone thinks its a great extension of the hobby- learn to make your own kit. On the GW forums all I\'m getting is lots of flak- apparently if I dont spend $50 a vehicle and $50 a squad then they dont want to see it.

Ahh, but doesnt GW require for tournament play that you use only GW minis? The other thing to remember is the number of Fanboys on the list you are dealing with.

Stripwalker - re: GW forums - those are the gripings of people with little artistic talent, whose only ability is to drive to the GW store and slap down their VISA. GW has convinced them that what they can do (pay for things) is somehow better than what others can do (make things). Or maybe they like GW so much they feel they need to unconditionally support a policy (official products only in games) designed purely for the company\'s enrichment.

Arguably, the policy also ensures that I can\'t muster a crappy looking army (toy indians painted as Kroot or something) on the cheap, and field it against others who must pay full price for theirs. But I think anyone who can skilfully scratchbuild kit is not doing it for the savings - since they probably \"spend\" many times as much on their units, in terms of their labour time... (Of course, in *unofficial* play, if you permit it, your opponent can field his cat as a Bloodthirster).

I like this whole idea.

Yeah, I was a little dissapointed when I found out I couldn\'t use Army Of the Dead cast in clear resin at the LotR Grand tournament

I am VERY old school. When we used to play D&D (or other RPG - we probably played all of them) we had minis for the characters and the NPCs/Monsters were represented by dice. I\'ve still got a billion dice of various sizes and colors so if you want to use them as your army that\'s okie dokie with me.

That said, I\'d rather you use minis and if you can make them out of playdoh, great and if you can\'t then tons of cheap (and ugly) minis are available - such as if you buy a copy of Carnage!

Needless to say I\'ve never played in a GW tournament.
