Just want to share this with you: if you want a good and relatively cheap digital camera, go for the Minolta Dimage Z10.

It\'s similar to the Z1 (the camera I used prior to my new one), with some minor changes to make it more affordable. Just like the Z1 it has 3.2 megapixels, a great macro function and programs from fully automatic to fully manual. The things that have been omitted from the Z1 to make this camera cheaper are:

- unable to attach external flash
- 8x optical zoom instead of 10x
- No sound with your movies
- maximum movie size 640*480 instead of 800*600
- different housing, a bit less solid than the Z1

The Z1 costed about 500 euros last year, I now bought the Z10 for 215 euros

So if anyone is looking for a good camera to take minis, but also for regular use, I think this is a good choice, great value for money.

Hi Gerrie I want to update my camera and want to get a digital SLR most of which are too costly.

I havnt looked at the Miontas mainly because I was a bit put off by their shape.

Is it a SLR? - you certainly seem happy with it and the close up is much better than I can manage at the moment.

It does not say SLR on the web page so I doubt it is - that\'s a major feature and they\'d mention it. It does say \"f*ckin-A macro\" or words to that effect though From Corvus\' pics this certainly seems true!

what does SLR exactly mean? maybe I can help and look this feature up in the manual...

SLR = Single Lens Reflex- this is where you actually look through the lens that will take the picture - in manual cmeras there is a mirror that flips up when the shutter is opened.

Looking at your picture of the camera I think I can see the eye piece lens in front of the flash so, as NSA says it probably isnt.

Is it just me or are the preview screens on these cameras a waste of time?

They are too small to focus in macro and useless outside unless it is completely overcaste

I think that transparent piece is just a light sensor...

as you can see on this picture:

You can switch between display, and regular viewer. Both of them display a digital image, as you can see through the lens...
