I am like you as in returning to the hobby, and it is overwhelming at times with the various techniques but the fundamentals are the same.

If you just concentrate on perfecting the basics of painting then you can build up to perfecting the more advanced techniques.

As for style try and find a way of painting that works for you. If your happy with the mini\'s then all is good

Your miniatures are excellent, as to whether that style is outdated, I dont think it is, everyone kind of has their own unique way and style.

Your miniatures are very good! I personally like your style like on the marine its very basic the highlights aren\'t so drastic but you still fit in a good amount of detail where it counts. the freehand is amazing! Keep up the good work.

Dude... your work is awesome!

I just voted on a few and in my opinion they were mostly 8\'s and 9\'s....

You clearly have the skill to be a demon winning painter, no doubts about that. In terms of style, I guess your style is a little more stark colour differences and brighter colours than the more muted, subtle and ultra-realistic styles that have become more favoured over the last few years. That said, looking at some of the minis that have won demons this year, I think there\'s somewhat of a swing back towards that more dramatic style going on, so you may have picked EXACTLY the right tiem to come back as your style comes back into fashion :)

Hey, all I can say is, read loads of tutorials, have a play with wet blending and those modern techniques which lead to a smoother finish whatever your style, and keep at it.

Above all else, keep painting the way YOU like to paint, don\'t worry about emulating the style that\'s \'in fashion\'... it\'s always better to stand out!

Totally agree with Ben here, your work is really very nice!

You can tie a model together getting the overall feel of it balanced (with the terminators shield as the exception), and that is a skill that more would do well to learn. Keep plugging away, it\'s all rather pretty!

the bloke doesnt just have the skill, he has the demons too!

i\'m guessing you\'re Robbie Crawforth ???

you still have an ace style!

as far as updating your style, i\'d say get some more local colours in your shadows and highlight with other colours than white.

there is more of a move towards the naturalistic style of historicals nowadays. maybe try a bit of zenithal highlighting

Try out other things, if you want to, and see if you think they suit you. But, I don\'t think you can force any particular style upon yourself. Not without risking to ruin the fun of painting, at least. But, a style of painting is not set in stone. It will change and develop as you try out new things. Some will stick, some will not.

I remember the orc mini in your gallery from an article on your store in WD.

I love the style, it\'s very GW - keep painting and develop but don\'t try and change what ain\'t broken!

dude nothign sucks about your painting style... its old school and awesome. dont change it. dont worry anyway mini painting is a fickle hobby and i guarantee in the next two years we will start having a retro rewind back to the old days. much like fashion has gone back to 80\'s clothing ..... shivers.....
