Advice for purple Eldar?

I have recently acquired a new Warhammer 40k Eldar army, and I\'m fairly sure I want them to be purple. I\'m not terribly good with colors though, so I figured I\'d seek advice here. I plan to use citadel colors because I already have a large stock of them and they\'re what I\'m familiar with.

So far, I\'m thinking that most of the models will be primed black with a coat of warlock purple. This will give a fairly dark purple for the bottom layer. The next layer will be a thicker coat of purple that should be less dark. I\'m not sure how to do subsequent layers though - mixing warlock purple and white gives a pinkish color. Would ice blue be a good color to lighten my purple for successive layers?

And speaking of ice blue, that\'s what I had in mind for the army\'s secondary color. Maybe an enchanted blue basecoat with an ice blue 2nd layer and an ice blue/skull white mix for the 3rd layer would look good?

Finally, in terms of weapons and gems I\'m at a total loss. What color would be good for my army\'s guns with a purple/ice blue color scheme? And for the gems that cover all Eldar models, red? Or maybe blue? Would green look good? I\'m really clueless about matching colors most of the time

Thanks!

Very limited range of purples with citadel (Most brands seem to negelct them in fact) Warlock purple does indeed go to pink very easily. For Dark purple I myself go from black, through liche up to warlock with only harsh highlights using a tenticle and warlock mix, and only any edging higher than that. Warm and reddish finish, a bit like a deep bruise.

May want to try starting just from imperial or liche purple and working your way up with white ignoring warlock and tenticle pink entirely, would leave it much colder with the blue content. (Though tenticle pink itself has a fair bit of blue in it)

As for colours that go well with purple, personally I\'ve always liked green for secondary with blue details (And gold metalics, which really stand out on a purple backing due to the yellow in them). Blue sometimes isn\'t far enough away from it to contrast enough for the main secondary colour. (Though dark purple and light blue can work) Some may advocate orange or yellow and though it has great contrast it doesn\'t do it for me.

I dont like using paints straight out of the bottle. If you dont like the pink, maybe use a basecoat or warlock plus liche purple. (for mine I use a mix of liche plus scab red) Then blend from there. Also, dont be afraid to do things like, use a tad of bleached bone in the highlighting process or other colors... its all about experimenting!

Exactly what you want.

Here you are- http://necromancergraphix.moonfruit.com/

Go into Tutorials, and find the eldar one, it gives you exactly your army colors, down to the \'T\'.

He doesn\'t use primer, though. I reccomend white.

I think that tutorial is a bit more tutti frutti than I\'m looking for... Thanks for the link though.

Mantastyle; since the original thread was started in 2007 and out of all the posters in it only one makes any appearnce on here any more, I think your chances of a reply from any of them are rather slim.
However Liche Purple is one of those "troublesome" colours that people often have issues with. Personally I Find that mixing a tiny amount of Black in to the LP does gives a darker shade but it's not for everyone or every figure. There are way to get a good highlight colour by either addig tiny amounts of Grey, either Shadow, Space wolves for a blue tone or Fortress grey for a Neutral tone. Alternatively use Bleached Bone for a highlight additive.

Dude, this thread is three years old in case you didn't notice! Probably your best bet would be to send philologus a PM instead.
