Advice needed for kitbash idea (elf ship)

Good evening ladys and gentleman (or whatever time of the day it might be at your location, at least ist evening here in Germany while I write)

I don`t even know if \"kitbash\" is the right term for what I`m thinking of.
I have seen a lot of inspiring and superbly executed conversions of real-world planes and tanks for WH40K here on CMON, but almost nothing for WHFB.
Since I am almost entirely devoted to High Elfs and have lots of spare little decorative bits left from the new plastic lords and mages I thougt I shoud try something different.
After browsing through google and ebay I came up with this:

http://i13.ebayimg.com/04/i/001/1d/5c/2391_1.JPG

With the right insignia and some minor conversions (repeater bolt throwers and the like) it would make a real nice highelf vessel.
But the model in question is 1:72. I fear It might be a bit small for \"heroic 28mm\". (there is no scale like that in conventional model lines, or is it?)
What do you think? It costs 56 EUR at ebay and thats quite a high sum for a plastic model. Do you know any other kits/manufacturers that might fit for what I have in mind?
Any help, suggestions or comments for the project would be really welcome.

If you scroll down, the blurb says 1:50. They\'re both pretty ships. I can\'t really offer constructive advice, but it sounds like a cool idea and I hope you find something suitable! Btw, have you tried checking in regular model shops too? You might be able to find something that way.

Yea, I\'d say kitbash is the appropriate term - not normally a fan of WHFB, but I\'ll watch this thread :) Good luck

Thanks so far, I`m always delighted how fast you get help on these forums! So you think 1:50 would be the right scale for GW figures? I`m still a bit unsure. Especially the oars would look weird if they don`t fit the scale, but due to my non-existant math skills I`m unable what would be the equivalent to GW scale.
The longboat sure looks nice, but there are some hints in the army book that elf ships have ram bows, so I would like to incorporate that into my design. Since I`m quite unfamiliar with wooden models I`m not quite sure If I could manage to add one in this case. Can anybody who has experience in this field tell me how much harder such wooden kits are to manage than the average revell plastic kit? The last thing I build from wood was a house for a hamster lol

According to Wikipedia, Heroic 28mm is a 1/73 scale. Wikipedia also says that 28mm figures look \"in scale\" with 1/50 vehicles, whatever that\'s supposed to mean.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miniature_figure_(gaming)#Scales

\"Most 28mm miniatures look more in scale with 1/48 or 1/50 scale vehicles when the figure\'s base is taken into account. This is the most common size, as 28mm is the size that Games Workshop uses.\"

I still don\'t know if it would look right, but that at least answers your question about doing the math. 28 mm = approx. 1/73.
