Advice on FW Brass Scorpion\'s wires

Hello,

So I finally started my GD entry (yes, very late...i know -- work and commission/ebay sales work has kept me busy)...

It\'s the FW Brass Scorpion.

I began by doing a thin basecoat on the wires under the body

I am now trying thin layers (glazes) over parts of each wire to try and hilite them. Then will do darker glazes/washes to shade the deepest parts.

I\'m finding that it doesn\'t appear to be working very well.

I\'m thinking it may be that I still don\'t have enough brush control and since the wires are rounded and small, it\'s just takes more practice.

Does anyone have experience with thin objects such as wires or rounded objects (cylinders, spheres, etc) that can give some advice.

Wires are just long cylinders. They are shaded from near white on the lit side to near black on the dark side:

I\'m not sure that washes are the way to do this. Wash down to dark on the back side and then layer back up to near white using the edge of the brush in 2 or 3 finer increments to bring the highlights.

Alternate trick: turn model upside down (or so rear of wires are lower most) Dilute your paint and run brush down back of wire.
With Clean brush Go over top of wire with Clean water. Water run allows darker paint to flow easier.
Alow to dry, or Hair dryer carefully. Gives a reasonable effect.
