Advice on shade

first off these are gaming figures I am using to practice I have not cleaned them very well so there are a few mold lines:redface:

I want to know have I gone dark enough on the legs (webbing not done yet.

I am begining to find that what you think is good contrast while painting looks to soft after I may have to do a few figures where I force myself to go to extreme eg black>colour> white

I think there\'s enough contrast as is. But if you look at it in real life (when it isn\'t magnified) it probably seems like a lot less. Might need to go darker shade and lighter highlight so it doesn\'t get washed out in the distance.

Plus, if you want it to look cartoony (more contrast) or realistic (less contrast) also makes a difference. So it depends on a lot of things.

Looking good while painting and not later is probably because your eyes are a lot closer while painting whereas after you tend to look at models from much further. So you see less detail, the colours merge...contrast is reduced...etc.
