Oh my. If I accidentally primed a mini I was planning to seal, I would probably just call it quits. Thats awful, I'd be crying like a baby for at least a week anyway.
No you just swear like an actor in a Tarantino movie. To be honest issues like the lumpy primer do happen to just about everyone sometime, so you'll come to love Simple Green (you are stateside I believe) as a rescue aid.Over time you'll come to find a primer that you prefer for it's coverage, smoothness and non-invasive "tooth", again its down to trial and error. However if I can make a small suggestion hunt around for Vallejo Airbrush Paint Grey Primer (its a dropper bottle NOT a Can) and you can comfortably use that as a brush on primer, doesn't hide detail, is relatively easy to apply and means you can start a new figure on a rainy cold day, without having to go outside or upset rest of family.

I will definitely give it a shot. It seems like brush-on primer would be hell on the brush, so I'm assuming I'll need a synthetic junker brush for that.

Tamiya do a good grey caned stuff i really recomend keeping it in hot water for 5 mins before use though (recomend that with any can primer actually)

The valejo stuff as mentioned above really is the best ive used though but it means buying a airbrush if you dont already have one.

I just brush Vallejo Airbrush Paint Grey Primer on with a sable #2. It's a good way to get to know the model better and make sure nothing was missed at the prep stage.
