After a long painting break

Hi, recently got back into doing some painting after about a year and a half of slacking. Started on a few small pieces but the mounted samurai daimyo was taunting me from the shelf so I had to give it a try. Picture isnt that great need to practice with the photos again , i\'ll try to get some better ones soon.

exellent red colour there. what scale is he?

Its a 90mm figure, first time i have ever attempted anything that big, I usually paint 30mm stuff so this should be interesting.

Are those metallics? If not, that is some excellent copper NMM.

Its metallics, gold though, the picture really needs to be a bit better.

its nice. i find the \"mouth\" to be a bit strange though. isnt it supposed to be part of the mask?


@ triede: does it matter if its metallics or nmm/ how it looks is the important part, and great looking metallics can be as tough to pull off as anything.

Ahh yes the mouth does look a bit confusing there, the teeth are part of the mask and you can see the samurais mouth under that. It looks a bit like you can see a tongue but that is in fact his bottom lip.

Now that you\'ve explained it, it all makes sense. I\'m not familiar with the piece so found it a bit odd before I got the mask concept :duh:

As mentioned, the metallics are very nice as is the red but it\'s those little bits of freehand script that really impress me - can\'t wait to see more :beer:

Did a bit more work on this one, its seems a bit daunting due to the size. I managed to get some courage to do some freehand on the arm and i think it looks ok. I,ve blue tacked it together just to get an idea of how its looking and imo its a damn nice minature. The other samurai is an average 30mm ish model to give you some idea of the scale, the horse is huge .

The big Samurai Daimyo is from Pegaso miniatures and the little one is from Perry miniatures, they do a great range based on the Sengoku Jidai (Warring states period, which is roughly 1550- 1600). They do some nice well known Samurai characters like Takeda Shingen and Tokugawa Leyasu.

Started to attempt some freehand of the back of his coat, did a fair bit of research into it (I have lots of books on Samurai) and i\'m going with a Crane design.

Still quite a bit to do on it yet, so i\'m hoping it will turn out ok.

Doing his coat is a real pain, other paint seems to be getting onto the whit from my fingers so i have to be very careful.
